šŸ“£ A bit about the role.

We’re looking for a technically brilliant and commercially astute Tax Manager to join the Finance team at Butternut Box on a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover. We’re open to part-time hours for the right candidate.

Reporting directly to the CFO, this is a fantastic opportunity to step into an exciting and impactful role at a key time for the business. You'll fully own Tax & Tax Strategy within a rapidly internationalising, high-growth Group.

In this role, you can expect to…
  • Own Tax within the Group, covering Corporation Tax (including R&D, Capital Allowances & Withholding Tax), Transfer Pricing, VAT, and everything in between.
  • Act as the Group’s Transfer Pricing lead, owning the design, documentation, and ongoing compliance of intercompany policies as Butternut Box expands across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Manage the activities and relationships with the Group’s external Tax advisors as required, with an expectation that the current set-up will be continually reviewed, assessed and optimised.
  • Design, build, and optimise Tax-related processes to ensure compliance, scalability, and efficiency — incorporating measurable KPIs and automation where appropriate.
  • Forecast and track upcoming Tax payments.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise the Group’s effective Tax rate and reduce risk, both short and long term.
  • Communicate and execute the Group's long-term Tax strategy in line with our wider objectives.
  • Support the annual audit process, including preparation of Tax-related disclosures, documentation, and liaising with auditors as needed (FRS 102).
  • Be the go-to expert to input on wider business strategy, M&A and other expansion projects as the Tax voice in the room. Lead the tax workstream on international expansion, proactively identifying risks, managing tax registrations and obligations across Europe, and coordinating with local advisors to ensure smooth market entries.
  • Partnering with the People team, Head of Legal and wider business to advise on: global mobility, corporate residency, share options, legislative changes and much more.

šŸ‘‹ A bit about you.

  • CTA or ACA qualified (both ideal but not essential).
  • Strong knowledge of UK Corporation Tax, with understanding of Capital Allowances, R&D, and Transfer Pricing.
  • Hands-on experience supporting business expansion into new markets is preferable, including managing new entity set-ups, navigating local tax frameworks, and coordinating with local tax advisors.
  • A moderate knowledge of indirect tax and customs implications for a B2C business.
  • Passionate about Tax, with a mindset of continuous learning to stay updated on Tax laws and industry best practices.
  • Proven self-starter - given the breadth of the role, we are not expecting you to have all the answers but leaning on your strong foundational knowledge and knowing where to look will be key.
  • Technically very strong but commercially aware & solution-orientated: Tax should not be a blocker as the business expands and you are energised by solving potential problems.
  • Strong communicator: you can convey complex tax concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Demonstrable the ability to switch between the detail and bigger picture.
  • A love for all things dogs!
