Wise is one of Europe’s fastest growing companies, providing transparent and low cost money transfer services to over 10 million customers in more than 70 countries.  We are looking for an awesome new member of the Tax Team to come on board in Brazil, to help grow the market in a compliant way!

You’ll be part of a commercially-minded Tax team, helping to ensure our tax affairs are efficient, transparently compliant and slick so that our mission is sustainable.

Key responsibilities:

Compliance

As our Brazilian tax SME, you will be responsible for all tax returns (direct and indirect), payments, etc. and communicate with the wider finance teams about how those taxes should appear in our financial statements. We expect you to have good knowledge of the cadence of tax returns and what adjustments are required on them. Specifics like the deductibility or not of expenses from certain taxes (PIS, COFINS, ISS, IRPJ, CSLL) is also required, as well as providing support for other taxes like IOF-Câmbio. This should not take up a significant part of your day.

Product Support & Advisor to the Business

Wise is successful because our Products are second to none. While Finance is a support team, we are considered key members of each product launch to ensure everything we launch is both commercially sound and compliant. We will require you to work closely with advisors, pulling from your own knowledge, to arrive at the best decision for the company. We also expect you to stay close to the guidance you provide the company and regularly run control processes to ensure your guidance has been applied properly. In the case of a law change, or a modification of a product that changes a previous tax position, we would expect you to partner with the relevant teams and work toward a solution.

Specifically, you will be required to:

  • Lead on tax considerations for Brazil product expansion, working with the local Finance Director, Compliance Officers, Banking and Expansion team and external advisors.
  • Oversee the outsourced preparation of all tax computations for our three brazilian entities (IRPJ, CSLL, PIS/COFINS, ISS).
  • Prepare IFRS and local GAAP tax provisions.
  • Lead on Brazil tax projects and provide regional input on global projects.
  • Manage local tax audits and be the Brazilian tax authority relationship owner.
  • Support the Group’s indirect tax team on Brazil indirect tax advisory work.
  • Keep up to date on the latest Brazilian tax policy developments and provide insightful updates to the business and tax team.
  • Work closely with advisors, product managers, engineers, data analysts, product designers and other system teams to ease the efficiency of tax in our products
  • Involvement in LATAM regional projects and new market opportunities.

Ideal candidate profile 😻:

  • Someone who is proactive and is able to make decisions independently, however, with a clear understanding of risk when decisions need to be escalated or external advice taken.
  • Able to build strong collaborative working relationships across the business, including in product, banking, engineering and across finance (including tax).
  • Someone with prior experience in regulated fintech / financial services (strongly preferred)
  • Able to appropriately measure, manage and communicate tax risks
  • Able to enjoy work and bring a smile to the office (at least twice a week!).
  • Comfortable with working across multiple timezones.

What we’re not looking for ⛔:

  • Someone with poor communication skills, overcomplicating message or not getting to the point.
  • Someone who is not intellectually curious and doesn’t ask questions.
  • Someone who would not be a good team/culture fit - arrogance, no can do attitude etc.
  • Someone who likes routine and is not able to deal with an ever changing work load and business.
  • Someone who is not forthcoming with mistakes or someone who is not diligent about fixing them.

What we’re offering:

  • 🚀  RSU’s in a rapidly growing company after a year with us
  • 💻 Hybrid working model – A combination of work-from-home and from the office
