During the pandemic our engineering, product, and design teams went back to first principles and redesigned our Flagship mobile apps and the platforms they run on from the ground up. Our new apps are an engineer’s dream to work with: they embrace component-based server-driven UI and clean architecture; and we are among the first major tech companies to fully rewrite our iOS app using SwiftUI. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team comprising some of our most senior engineering talent. This team is responsible for the iOS, Android, and service platforms that support mobile app development as well as the Core Mobile App User Experience. The ideal candidate would bring excellent technical acumen and communication skills, a high level of integrity, and a desire to have a large impact on our customers and our business.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Lead, empower, and motivate the team to do their best work.
  • Recruit and retain high performing senior and principal engineers.
  • Take responsibility for the team’s output.
  • Define platform roadmaps and OKRs, ensuring product engineering teams have the tools to continue to innovate.
  • Exhibit sound judgment, such as when to reduce scope, who to hire, etc.
  • Provide continuous feedback on how we can adapt our environment to help the organization evolve in a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative way.
  • Review and participate in technical designs.
  • Evangelize mobile app platform knowledge across the organization, especially to product engineering teams.

 

Skills & Experience

  • A strong technical background including at least 5 years of development experience with iOS (preferably Swift), Android (preferably Kotlin), and/or microservices (preferably JVM-based).
  • Platform leadership experience.
  • High quality verbal and written communication skills.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing high performing senior or principal engineers.
  • Familiarity with architectural patterns of large-scale applications across mobile apps and services supporting them.
  • Willingness to work with stakeholders across the company, and to challenge and influence without authority.
  • Desire to share platform knowledge and empower mobile app engineering teams.
  • A sense of ownership, urgency, and pride in your work.
  • Experience leading remote teams.
  • Experience with server driven UIs and working knowledge of AWS are desired.
