The Infrastructure and Systems Architecture team is responsible for all systems, processes and third party relationships, as well as managing all changes relating to the platform’s metering systems, including (but not limited to) Secure, DCC, ESG uSmart, IHD, Itron, and meter manufacturers. The team's core objective is to ensure that all new changes, software and hardware are reviewed, tested, released and monitored into the trad and smart metering environment.
This role in a nutshell:
The Traditional Metering SME will provide the business with key and critical knowledge and understanding to support the company's meter rollout objectives. The role’s deep metering experience will complement a team of smart meter specialists in order to provide knowledge and direction for changes related to our traditional metering estate.
This direction will help our customers and also help us hit our plan zero goals, as metering (smart and trad) is at the heart of everything!
Your key outcomes will be:
- Successfully handling changes including price changes to our traditional metering estate.
- Build and run the change roadmap,
- Manage our traditional metering infrastructure providers in order to improve value and where appropriate find opportunities to reduce costs.
- Assist colleagues with issues relating to OVO’s trad meter estate.
- Being a point of contact who can reliably offer expert advice.
- Improved understanding of smart metering processes in order to aid the transition to smart metering for OVO’s trad meter customers
Within your first 2 months month you’ll:
- Build excellent relationships with metering infrastructure providers, identifying opportunities to drive improvements for customers.
- Work closely with infrastructure colleagues to understand how traditional meters present challenges for customers, via contact and/or complaints
- Identify process improvements related to trad metering and lead on delivering changes that will deliver benefits to customers
- Build out your awareness of our smart metering infrastructure
You’ll be a successful Traditional Metering SME at OVO if you have a…
- Deep understanding of Traditional Metering technologies and systems including (but not limited to) PPMIPs, PSPs, Itron Managed Services, Talexus, and Payment Allocation (MAP14)
- Experience of leading technical deliveries, including external deliverables and rolling this out to the business - for example traditional meter price change events
- Some awareness of Agile working practices, ideally scrum and kanban
- A consistent record of developing positive relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Experience of working within a hard-working team
- Numerate and analytical!
- Experience in working across teams to make design changes to our architecture to improve our end to end performance
- Familiarity with REC (Retail Energy Code) Schedules relating to traditional metering and prepayment
- Awareness of smart metering infrastructure and the smart energy code (SEC) would be advantageous - as the role is likely to require activities with our smart metering estate
- Ideally some awareness of working with automation teams and delivery automation solutions, including testing and release monitoring
