Teamworking for the planet
Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here’s how:
We might not be on the frontline of people’s zero carbon journey, but this treasury team keeps the turbines spinning by ensuring that our cash is used effectively; supporting all the functions in Ovo that rely on suppliers being paid, customers cash being allocated appropriately and everything in between.
This role in a nutshell:
Owning the accounting of the cash ledgers, turbo charging automation and being the go to person on cash.
Your key outcomes will be:
Daily tasks
- Most important of all will be seeking process improvements to automate manual tasks and accounting entries, generating more time to new tasks and project work
- Creating payment runs to suppliers, for payroll and ad hoc runs - working with the accounts payable team to optimise payments of invoices to ensure the best use of our working capital
Taking ownership of Accounting:
- Performing daily/monthly bank reconciliations within our accounting system (Workday) and producing month and year end reconciliations thus ensuring that all treasury related general ledger codes are accurately maintained to allow for accurate financial reporting
- Liaising with teams across the business to own and maintain the cash, prepayment and short term investment ledgers are up to date
- Produce and disseminate accrual calculations
Assisting in cash flow forecasting:
- Aiding in the production, analysis and improvement of the cash flow forecasting to ensure timely, accurate cash flow forecasts. This will lead to highlighting and analysing any discrepancies
- Monitoring cash position and key working capital, to provide recommendations to senior Treasury members for use of cash management levers.
- Supervising the control environment of the Treasury team and suggesting ways to improve the efficiency, accuracy and reliability of the Treasury function.
Within your first 3 months month you’ll:
- Have understood the accounting entries required for cash management in Ovo
- Have integrated into the team to improve working capital
- Have created your network of key people in the business to gather any information needed
Systems: Banking portals, Workday, Excel (obviously not a system….but finance loves Excel!)
You’ll be a successful Treasure Assistant & Accountant here at OVO if you…
- Are comfortable prioritising conflicting items. There will be plenty of variety and keeping organised will be time critical
- Are a good communicator. Keeping the team and the wider finance function in the loop will be important
- Have great attention to detail. Ensuring the ledgers are up to date and payments are made on time will be key
