Job Overview:

Stepstone Group is seeking to hire a Vice President to support the management and operating framework related to the firm’s fund and investor onboarding program.  The successful candidate will have extensive experience working in the private markets industry within a client service-related role.  Emphasis will be on the client experience where the fund structuring process will enable the right candidate to work at the epicenter of fundraising activity with the goal to improve the client experience overall.  As a senior member of the onboarding team, the candidate will report to the Director of Fund Onboarding and work closely to develop processes, technology and to implement a new global operating framework.  In addition, the person will be responsible for the management of junior team members and associated daily or weekly deliverables.  The Vice President will serve as the daily point of contact for both internal stakeholders, administrators, external law firms, technology vendors.  Most importantly the role will collaborate and support clients directly in a white glove manner to start and finish each fund subscription process.  The person should be extremely process oriented, entrepreneurial and have experience working with different fund administrators globally to support the onboarding process.  A strong understanding and experience overseeing a global KYC AML program will be necessary including awareness of regulatory risk and changes.  Strong attention to detail and understanding of the private market’s subscription process is critical to the role.  Capturing important client data in a digital format is a major focus for this team, the successful candidate should have experience and knowledge of digital enablement tools, data and analytics, fund reporting and managing the business requirements / environment for Salesforce CRM solutions.

 

Team and Function:

Fund Onboarding is a newly established dedicated function and serves as an enterprise service within the Business Development team at Stepstone Group A Global team focused on spearheading all core Fund and LP onboarding activities across all asset classes. This includes supporting all active fundraising activities for StepStone product offerings in the market.  Working in close coordination with Business Development, Legal, Compliance, Accounting and Fund Counsel to proactively manage each LP’s subscription process from front to finish to both ensure compliance and commercial success in a white glove manner. Oversight of the extended review and approval process ensuring jurisdictional requirements are met and satisfied with our partners globally. The team has a major focus on enhancing the client experience through a more modern, curated and closely supported process with minimal touch points. Oversight of our vendor platform and collated review process ensures that all client information and documents are leveraged, redundant questions are removed, and all requested items are coordinated with the fund and client expectations. The team is focused on building the foundation and operating framework to enable digitization of the subscription process for LPS and GPs with the objective of capturing better client information that can be utilized both internally and leveraged by our own clients as they subscribe to our funds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Director in strategic initiatives including process and technology implementation with key fund administrators and technology partners.
  • Manage quarterly updates and enhancements to onboarding policy including oversight of AML / KYC requirements in various jurisdictions.
  • Implement new policy standards to extended fund onboarding processes across vendors, staff and operational teams.
  • Further develop and manage global AML / KYC program in coordination with Director of Onboarding and the Chief Compliance Officer
  • Manage large scale implementation projects related to technology and process changes. Serve as senior program manager as it relates to prioritization and all implementation activities.
  • Manage and enforce StepStone global AML / KYC standards both internally and within vendor processes.
  • Manage exception, escalation and close over proves ensuring commercial success and balancing potential risks.
  • Serve as escalation point for all onboarding experience related issues with a focus on ensuring the client experience is best in class and consistent across asset classes and product types.
  • Strong leader and manager to junior team members with experience setting goals and conducting performance reviews.
  • Train and support junior team members to promote team standards / imperatives, product knowledge, industry trends, business acumen and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish vendor management program and key performance indicator reporting.
  • Implement operational best practices and oversight of administrators globally with a focus on enhanced reporting from each administrator via API connectivity.
  • Spearhead data management initiatives including historical data uplift, development of new reporting and data analytics solutions regarding fund and investor data.
  • Serve as fundraising quarterback to track all fundraising activities across all asset classes and fund types. This includes all commingled funds, Separately managed accounts and co-invest transactions across the firm.
  • Manage and develop firms CRM system from a books and records perspective.
  • Ensure new operational and data related standards are adhered and not missed for the setup of each new product offering at StepStone.
  • Manage and develop a fund onboarding dashboard, fund master terms overview and investor segmentation dashboard.
  • Serve as data steward and owner for the capture and production of all fund register deliverables and final investor trackers.
  • Establish a data center of excellence for client and fund related data.
  • Support each product team captain to ensure value is being provided including process improvement, data insights and risk management.
  • Create a support structure that creates leverage for product management and legal as it relates to the onboarding process.
  • Provide executive level reporting and risk management support related to the progress and development of the onboarding function and vendor management oversight.

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Masters in business administration, or a related field.
  • 7-10 years proven experience working at a private market’s asset management firm in a management capacity leading a team.
  • Experience within the fund onboarding function working with external law firms and providers.
  • investor services, finance, or a related field, with a strong background in vendor management.
  • Extensive experience in Salesforce CRM systems managing a client base and associated records.

Salary Range

$110,000 - $190,000

The salary range is an estimate of pay for this position.  Actual pay may vary depending on job-related factors that can include location, education, skill, and experience.  The salary range does not include any benefits or other forms of possible compensation that may be available to employees.
