Position Overview

StepStone is seeking a marketing and communications professional to develop and execute a marketing strategy and manage an existing team for the global private wealth business. The selected candidate will develop strategies and implement them to 1) improve our marketing materials, 2) develop and implement a communication strategy including podcasts, speaking opportunities, webinars, and social media. 3) create a compelling story within the constraints of a highly regulated environment and 4) create new methods/techniques to enhance our brand and reach.

This is a high-profile position in a part of StepStone Group that is primarily a sales organization. The successful candidate’s role is critical to the further growth of the business. This individual will often work directly with the senior leaders of the private wealth division, while also communicating frequently with our global business development teams, the corporate marketing team, and portfolio managers.

The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a proven track record in managing competing priorities. The person should have a solid understanding of private market investments with knowledge of the needs of the private wealth industry and high net worth clients.

To excel in this role, the candidate must enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment managing numerous concurrent workstreams.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Collaborate with leadership across relevant departments to identify business needs, determine prioritization, and manage expectations for delivery.
  • Develop and execute a marketing strategy designed for the target market including social media, events, speaking engagements, press releases, articles, and other forms of communication.
  • Co-create, draft and proofread content for collateral, communications, and other marketing initiatives ensuring we maintain a consistent, compliant voice and StepStone brand.
  • Manage third-party public relations firm to identify relevant opportunities for podcasts, press releases, thought leadership pieces, and news or magazine articles.
  • Develop a strategy to enhance the user experience on the Private Wealth website.
  • Consider and propose a cost-effective plan to implement SEO marketing, paid advertisements, and other forms of search optimization tools.
  • Analyze data pertaining to success rates and engagement of marketing initiatives and continue to suggest improvements based on results.
  • Identify the appropriate social media platforms for the private wealth target audience, create a schedule of posts, and manage the execution of the strategy.
  • Manage an existing team of mid-level staff.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships across multiple office locations.
  • Identify third-party vendors and/or technology systems to gain economies of scale with growing quantities of collateral requests.
  • Supervise the creation and maintenance of marketing decks, fact cards and other collateral.  
  • Assist and lead various projects and analyses for the private wealth and business development teams.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experienced manager with a track record of empowering people to be the best versions of themselves and respectfully holding the team accountable to timelines and delivering quality work.
  • Team player with a strong work ethic and an interest in private markets and/or private wealth.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Exceptional commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while being a collaborative team player.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when proofreading for consistency, accuracy, and grammar.
  • Highly organized and self-directed individual and can multi-task among various projects.
  • Committed to meeting deadlines and progressing workstreams across multiple teams with limited supervision.
  • Effective and clear communication skills, both verbally and written, with all levels of personnel, both internal and external.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities with a proven track record of leading projects and initiatives from beginning to end.
  • Highly motivated, ambitious, individual with a growth mindset that flourishes in a challenging, fast-paced, and professional environment with frequent shifts of priorities as business needs dictate.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe In-Design, and other design-related systems.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, finance, business, or other related degree.
  • Minimum 7 to 10 years of marketing and communications experience.
