About the job

This position is needed to lead our messaging carrier partnerships and industry engagement strategies across North America. This senior executive role will be pivotal in driving growth, ensuring high-quality service delivery, and enhancing our competitive edge in the market. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the telecommunications landscape, strong negotiation skills, and a proven track record of building and maintaining strategic relationships with carriers and industry stakeholders. Advocating for Twilio, on behalf of our customers, and influencing Carriers and Industry players is a key aspect of this role. This executive will partner closely with product, sales, marketing, finance, legal and operations to align our company strategy and execution to the external industry and carrier narrative.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will: 

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key carrier partners and industry stakeholders across the United States and Canada.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for carrier and industry partners, proactively positioning Twilio’s value and differentiation in the messaging ecosystem, and addressing any issues or concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Monitor and analyze carrier performance metrics (internally and externally) to ensure high-quality service delivery, roadmap alignment and compliance posture.
  • Identify areas for improvement and work with carrier partners to implement solutions and optimize performance and overall customer experience.
  • Work with carriers and internal stakeholders to identify opportunities related to carrier partnerships that accelerate growth and expand Twilio’s market reach.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., operations, product, and sales) to align carrier capabilities with company needs and customer demands.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and the competitive landscape in the telecommunications sector. Influence change that benefits Twilio and the overall ecosystem.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership on emerging opportunities and potential risks.
  • Drive innovation by exploring new technologies and business models to enhance Twilio’s industry relations strategy.
  • Represent at industry conferences, events, and forums to build brand awareness and establish thought leadership.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies and industry associations to advocate for policies and standards that support Twilio’s business goals.
  • Lead a high-performing carrier and industry relations team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to achieve departmental goals.
  • Develop the Carrier Relations team and organizational structure to best meet a constantly evolving NAMER messaging landscape.

Required:

  • 18+ years in technology business development with a strong relationships across the NAMER Telco industry and comprehensive understanding of the A2P messaging business and landscape
  • 10+ years in developing world class carrier relations, business development and/or supply organizations.
  • Proven track record to develop relationships with senior executives, evangelize product innovations and advocating on behalf of customers/consumers
  • Deep understanding of the North American telecommunications market, including regulatory environment and industry trends.
  • Extensive understanding of North American business messaging compliance and best practices.
  • Expert negotiation skills and the ability to distill sophisticated issues into structured frameworks and concrete action plans.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence others internally and externally to maximize Twilio’s industry and competitive positioning.
  • Entrepreneurial approach and innovator who excels in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
  • Provide leadership and mentor Carrier Relations team members, challenging them to look beyond how things are done today to create opportunities and remove barriers for brands that want to leverage business messaging.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and excellence within the team.

Location

This role will be remote, and based out of North America.

Travel

We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, approximately 25% travel is anticipated to help you connect in-person in a meaningful way.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:

  • Based in Colorado: $262,000 - $310,000.
  • Based in New York, Washington State, or the San Francisco Bay area, California: $292,000 - $364,000.
  • This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan. All roles are eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
  • This role is eligible to earn commissions. 

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
