Workers Compensation Claims Manager
This hybrid position will be based in our Boston office Monday- Thursday, with remote flexibility on Fridays.
The Workers Compensation Claims Manager will oversee workers compensation claims from intake to resolution as well as work comp programs with a focus on delivering best in class results for Wayfair and our employees. You will provide technical support and monitor activity of the Third Party Administrators (TPA), internal stakeholders, litigated claims and overall claims performance. Responsible for day-to-day activities of claims and communication to all business units. Contribute to site safety team initiatives with data and information related to claims mitigation. This leader will own the claims process and have autonomy to make it their own with the help of the Workers Compensation Claims Associate. This leader must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with the management and associate teams. This role has one direct report.
What You’ll Do
- Work Comp claims resources to Corporate and business unit management and supervisory personnel
- Monitor workers Compensation claims, including close supervision of large and/or severe cases
- Consult with attorneys, adjusters and carriers regarding claims or claims services. Work on claims litigation strategy
- Support company-wide Return to Work/Transitional duty program
- Run claims reviews
- Develop and distribute KPI reports to key stakeholders
- Help with the integration of new claims software
- Assist in the review of outside claims administrators (TPA) for effectiveness and cost containment.
- Track claims data and support safety improvements and injury reduction
- Work within the Risk and Insurance team on items related to renewal negotiations and special projects
- Manage worker’s compensation program, claims management, and injury management. Prepare materials and evidence for use in hearings, litigations, and communication to insurance claim carriers. Work closely with industrial clinics and specialists
- Open, review and process claims, ensure program conformance to applicable laws and regulations, prepare required reports, and monitor and evaluate the program activities to ensure the delivery of quality services
- Own the workers compensation procedures and work to ensure the most efficient and effective SOP
- Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints; evaluate problems and take appropriate action to resolve issues/concerns; advise injured employees of their benefits.
- Interface with physicians, attorneys, employees and management; coordinate return-to-work plans; coordinate and monitor rehabilitation plans for injured employees.
- Develop, strengthen and sustain productive and collaborative working relationships with all levels of the organization
What You’ll Need
- 3+ years of experience in handling workers compensation claims, preferably in a high volume or corporate setting
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience / designations
- People management experience required
- Demonstrated knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements that govern worker health and safety; physical assessment and ergonomic skills; case management skills.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal workers compensation and safety regulations.
- Ability to handle high case load, set priorities, strong organizational and time management skills.
- Understanding of state specific laws related to workers compensation across the United States
- Experience with setting and reviewing claim reserves
- Understanding of Employers Liability in Europe, the UK, and Asia
- General commercial insurance knowledge a plus (General Liability, Property, Financial Lines)
- Knowledge of Captive Insurance companies a plus
