Writer, Credit Cards | The Points Guy

The Points Guy is looking for a writer to join our credit cards team. This person will play a key role in creating and maintaining our evergreen guides meant to capture search volume while also helping with our day-to-day coverage of news relating to airline, hotel and general travel rewards credit cards.

The Credit Cards Writer will need to cultivate and leverage contacts at card issuers to be among the first to report on breaking stories and timely news items, as well as be capable of contributing to larger trend pieces and thought-provoking features. Detailed research abilities, as well as fast and precise writing skills, are absolute requirements.

Responsibilities will include brainstorming ideas with the editorial team, identifying opportunities for content optimization to enhance TPG’s share of voice, ideating and executing on innovative ways to educate readers, and working across teams to drive business objectives while meeting the needs of TPG’s audience.

What You'll Do

  • Track credit card and loyalty program news, then pitch, write, and edit stories based on that information.
  • Write new content and refresh existing content — including card reviews, benefits guides, card comparisons and marketplace pages — to maintain and grow TPG’s share of voice in the credit cards landscape. 
  • Develop and grow a network of credit card industry sources to get regular scoops and help pinpoint breaking news.
  • Be creative about covering credit cards in new and engaging ways across TPG’s verticals.
  • Collaborate with various internal teams on new initiatives and ongoing projects to optimize TPG’s performance and grow our audience.

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive knowledge of various airline, hotel and credit card loyalty programs.
  • Understanding of where and how to research information and data on rewards credit cards and whom to reach out to at individual companies or organizations for more information.
  • Foundational SEO knowledge and willingness to collaborate with team members to ensure key content achieves a top-five ranking on the SERP.
  • A team player who can easily switch gears from one beat to another, including from rapidly produced news stories to lengthier features according to content priorities.
  • A passion for points and miles as well as the travel opportunities they can present, plus a strong grasp of the history and differences among the major travel rewards credit card issuers and their respective products.
  • Polished, confident writing and grammar skills, and familiarity with writing in AP Style.
  • Prior experience writing or reporting on credit cards and/or personal finance a plus.

Compensation

  • USA Compensation Range: $50,000-$62,500
    • New York City Compensation Range: $60,000-$75,000 *Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
