Position Overview:

StepStone is currently seeking rising juniors or seniors with excellent quantitative, qualitative and interpersonal skills for an market research intern position on StepStone’s Private Equity Team. This is a school-year position based in our NYC office.  StepStone offers a unique opportunity to achieve a valuable learning experience working across the private equity industry. Interns will have an opportunity to learn the basics of the private equity industry, including all of the sub-asset classes like leveraged buyout, venture capital, growth equity, and distressed.

This role will report into a Private Equity Partner and support the Private Equity research team on gathering and analyzing data related to the private equity industry globally.  You will study and report on trends around fundraising, LP cash flows, valuation, and market environment.  This is a great opportunity to learn about the world of private equity, and engage with a large, entrepreneurial and collaborative team.

Essential Internship Functions: 

  • Gather and organize data around fundraising, deal statistics, lending conditions, strategy performance, etc.
  • Support the drafting of research papers on a variety of topics in private equity, including proofreading, chart-making, and helping track distribution.
  • Perform market research using publicly available information and proprietary databases to identify, quantify and analyze macroeconomic trends across a variety of industry sectors.
  • Assist private equity portfolio management teams on ad-hoc requests

Requirements:

  • Rising Junior or Senior in College
  • Self‐starter and intellectually curious person who is resourceful with gathering and analyzing large amounts of data, qualitative and quantitative
  • Relevant classes (economics, accounting/finance, business) desired.
  • High proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with strong attention to detail
  • Fluent (written and spoken) English, with ability to write full research reports
  • Team player and strong work ethic
  • US work authorization is required
  • Able to work approx. 10 hours a week in the NYC office for the 2024-2025 school year (open to July or August 2024 start dates)

Hourly range: $25.00 - $40.00
