Fund Accounting Overview:

The StepStone Fund Accounting group reviews all reporting, monetary, and other accounting processes involved with maintaining private equity, infrastructure, and real estate funds.  This review work is instrumental to provide the highest quality work for StepStone Group’s clients, as well as Sarbanes-Oxley reporting.  Although the fund accounting group specializes mostly in accounting, we do perform some traditional finance functions such as compliance and entity creation activities.

Fund Accounting Part-Time Spring Intern Overview:

StepStone is seeking accounting or finance majors for intern positions within the Fund Accounting department. Working with the Fund Accounting team you’ll have the opportunity to gain exposure to the private equity industry while learning about accounting and reporting for private equity funds.

As an intern in the fund accounting department, you will assist the team with:

  • Gathering and summarizing financial information from fund financials and performance reports needed for regulatory filings and other reporting
  • Reviewing of underlying fund financial statements including completing checklists to document review
  • Performing various review and reconciliations of financial data
  • Tracking of cash balances, activity, and locating payment information
  • Reviewing of legal documents to gather data needed for reporting
  • Reviewing of partner capital account balance statements and cash flow notices
  • Assisting accounts payable with the monthly invoice process
  • Updating and improving Excel templates
  • Reviewing underlying audits for SOX purposes
  • Preparing line of credit requests and maintain loan covenant documents
  • Assisting with any additional special projects

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate student pursuing an Accounting, Business, or Finance related major who are graduating between December 2024 through June 2025
  • Must be able to work legally in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills    
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client, investment and company information   
  • Acute attention to accuracy and detail    
  • Professional demeanor and an ability to work well in a team environment    
  • Highly proficient in using Excel, Word, and other Microsoft office programs
  • Team player with a strong work ethic
  • Available to work in the La Jolla office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from February 2024 through May 2024  
  • Able to work 15-20 hours during the standard work week
  • Willingness and ability to learn and implement new programs and processes

Hourly range: $20.00 - $20.00

The salary range is an estimate of pay for this position.  Actual pay may vary depending on job-related factors that can include location, education, skill, and experience.  The salary range does not include any benefits or other forms of possible compensation that may be available to employees.
