Energy Strategy team (within the wider Energy team) drives the development of the medium and long term commercial strategy for OVO’s Energy business.  You’ll be leading the Flexibility strand, working closely with the other Energy Strategy strands (Market Insight and Energy Innovation), and with stakeholders across the wider Energy Team and beyond. As a member of a lean and strategic function, you’ll be working with senior stakeholders within and outside of OVO.

Domestic consumer engagement with flexibility - or, enabling households to be more flexible with their energy usage - is a crucial part of the decarbonisation of the energy system, and a key enabler of everyone’s pathway to a zero carbon living. OVO has a history of challenging the status quo, and we are bringing this entrepreneurial spirit to the decarbonisation challenge to find cheaper, simpler ways to put consumers at the heart of the energy transition. This is a really exciting, emerging area of the energy sector and OVO is at the leading edge of this revolution. 

This role in a nutshell:

The overarching goal of this role is the development of strategies, business models and internal capabilities to enable OVO to maximise the potential value of Flexibility. Domestic flexibility capabilities and demand-side-response markets are a nascent, and rapidly evolving part of the energy system. This role will need to be agile to the changing activities required to deliver the overarching goal.  Key activities will include;

  • Flex Propositions: Working with teams across OVO and Kaluza to develop simple and compelling ways to engage consumers in flexible energy use.
  • Flex Optimisation: Lead the coordination of activities to optimise Energy value from smart tech connected to the Kaluza Flex platform (e.g. Electric Vehicles and Heat Pumps). 
  • Flex Markets: Analyse flexibility markets and lead OVO’s participation strategies. Contribute to industry working groups and regulatory meetings to ensure market design works for domestic consumers.
  • Flex Valuation: Develop and improve approaches to measuring the current and forecast future value of flexibility, including reporting on achieved, and forecasting potential future value of customer- and asset- led engagement in flexibility.

You’ll be a successful Flexibility Strategy Lead here at OVO if you have…

  • A commercial and strategic mindset able to interpret policy and market design into business impacts. 
  • Strong attention to detail with expert, technical knowledge of UK energy markets.
  • Strong commercial analytical and modelling skills 
  • Strong and broad communication skills, including the ability to synthesise and disseminate key messages from technical and non-technical literature to senior stakeholders
  • Strong prioritisation skills with a flexible, “find a way” mentality
  • Good stakeholder management, forming strong relationships internally and externally. A team player, open communicator and collaborator.
  • Deep understanding of the regulatory environment in UK Energy and working knowledge of other markets. Deep knowledge of energy trading, ancillary services and renewable energy generation and storage.
  • Passion for setting the future agenda for the energy industry, and being on the leading edge of change with a proven track record for bringing people on the journey with you.
  • A degree with a mathematics focus such as maths, science or engineering

We’ll pay you between £45,760 and £71,380, depending on your specific skills and experience. If your expectations are a little different, have a chat with us!
