In Asia Pacific, Mintel has been successfully delivering market intelligence and consumer insights for over 20 years. We are now looking for an ambitious team leader to join the Japan office as the Head of Japan Reports, following the success of our existing Japan business.   This role has the potential to become our Head of Japan Insight to manage a team of insight experts across different industries.

The incumbent is responsible for establishing Mintel’s report analyst team in Japan and leading the team to create syndicated market research reports. You will also work closely with commercial stakeholders and clients to ensure that we continue to deliver highly insightful content with thought leadership and provide strategic leadership to the development of this product in the long term.

 

What You Will Be Doing

  • Content Publishing
  • Mintel Japan Reports are syndicated market intelligence reports synthesizing primary and secondary data to provide a forward-looking view of a particular consumer market or lifestyle trend. A key part of the report is identifying important global trends (and why) and discussing the business implications for Japan market.

    • Work closely with a team of freelancers and/or in-house analysts to produce Japan reports according to planned schedule every year. In 2024, our publishing target is 48 reports across Food and Drink, Beauty and Personal Care, and Consumer Lifestyles.
    • As part of the induction/on-boarding, the Head of Japan report is expected to write at least one report (based on subject expertise) to be familiar with the full content creation process
    • Once qualified for content production, the Head of Japan report will be responsible for content review/quality control (which will involve insight generation and editorial work)

     

  • Drive Client Satisfaction with our content and service
    • Work closely with commercial leaders to actively seek feedback from clients and colleagues to ensure that our reports meet and exceed client expectation
    • Support client service requests related to Japan report. This involves eg providing subject expert’s point of view based on client questions, delivering presentations (either on-site or via zoom meeting) etc.
    • Upon establishing an in-house analyst team, work closely with key stakeholders to establish a client service model based on local market needs and team resources

     

  • Team Management
    • Work closely with HR on recruitment and other administrative tasks related to analyst team/freelancers management
    • Work with regional or global teams to ensure we have a robust induction process for new starters; localise key trainings in Japanese
    • Be the coach and mentor to the analyst team, review their performance and identify areas for training and development based on career plan discussions

     

  • Strategic Product Development
    • Work closely with regional content leaders on future Japan report planning (including annual title discussion, scheduling and resource planning for expansion)
    • Product/process development: continue to refine Japan Report structure/process based on internal and external feedback to improve our offering in the market

     

  • Support Mintel’s marketing/PR activities to promote Mintel Japan Report
    • Promote Mintel’s brand in the marketplace by supporting marketing and PR activities (eg media interviews, represent Mintel on tradeshow or conferences)
    • Review marketing or PR content related to Japan Report promotion

     

    Who We Are Looking For

    • Bachelor’s degree, excellent Japanese writing and speaking, business-level English
    • Minimum 15 years working experience in consumer research, marketing or consulting role (working experience in Beauty and Personal Care or Food and Drink industries are preferred)
    • Minimum 5 years of team management experience
    • Good knowledge of both Japanese and global consumer trends (especially US and Europe)
    • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, logical thinking, attention to detail
    • Good organizational, planning, and collaborative skills
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
    • Confident presenter to a big audience at key industry events or to a senior management team
    • An open mindset and enjoys working in a global organization with strong influencing skills
