The IT Automation Engineer Opportunity

This role will focus on building automation where possible and designing processes to achieve a frictionless support experience. A successful IT Automation Engineer must have a strong understanding of standard internet and SaaS applications (ServiceNow, Slack, Google Workspace, Okta), hardware (Apple/Windows), mobile phones and devices, and operating systems and working knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Javascript) or middleware such as Workato, Zapier, Okta Workflows or any other automation tools. The ideal candidate will also have excellent attention to detail and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. 

What you’ll be doing 

  • Design, implement, and test automation for internal IT systems and processes
  • Program new automated components in various platforms with a focus on Okta, ServiceNow, Jamf, and Intune 
  • Ability to identify potential user issues as more extensive system or company-wide incidents
  • Write and maintain internal and user-facing documentation: these include guides, code, release notes, and troubleshooting steps
  • Break/Fix support as issues are discovered and resolve problems promptly
  • Proactively look for opportunities to increase customer and team productivity, identify new processes and procedures to enable efficiency and a positive employee experience, and build solutions 
  • Identify the root cause of issues and document them in RCA documents
  • Communicate effectively with our customers and stakeholders with empathy and a customer-first mindset
  • Strive to resolve all employee support interactions on the first touch, whenever possible, while proactively and conscientiously balancing competing demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Eliminate defects and errors with product and software development 
  • Collaborate with other business units with a focus on L1 and L2 support teams
  • Bring a positive and fun spirit to the work you do every day 
  • Open to travel 10% of the time

What you’ll bring to the role

  • 2+ years supporting the IT Helpdesk environment
  • 2+ years of experience supporting Mac and Windows devices and MDM platforms
  • 2+ years experience working in a heavily SaaS-based environment with responsibility for managing user/role-based access to systems 
  • Familiarity with designing processes in ServiceNow and Okta Workflows 
  • Working knowledge of Python and Javascript 
  • Working experience with API integrations and documentation: This includes reference guides, tutorials, code samples, and troubleshooting guides
  • Strong ability to prioritize multiple tasks to ensure support for your customers and team
  • Proficiency in maintaining automation equipment
  • Experience with AI tools and machine learning
  • Experience with project management (Jira)
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform complex system tests
  • Proactive mentality and problem-solving skills
  • Consistently meet or exceed deadlines and deliverables
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate well with other members of the development team
  • Ability to keep up with the latest technologies
  • A desire to continually upgrade technical knowledge

And extra credit if you have experience in any of the following! 

  • Certifications or experience in any of the following: ITIL, Okta, ServiceNow, Slack, Google, Atlassian

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $78,000—$116,000 USD
