What You Will Be Doing...

Pure Storage co-locations are a unique blend of development lab and production data center environments under one roof. We are our own largest customer, and believe that proper utilization of our own products in both development and production capacities are key to our continued growth and success as a company.

In order to achieve success in your role as Data Center Operations Manager, you should expect to collaborate with and facilitate proper communication between multiple colocation stakeholders and data center operations teams on a regular basis. Stakeholders include representatives from various internal teams such as software engineering, hardware development, devops, and manufacturing. As such, you will ensure smooth operations of the facilities and its services to engineering. In order to achieve this, among other things, you should expect to collaborate with various employees and partners.

You will be responsible for leading an existing / growing team of 19 geographically distributed employees composed of Data Center Systems Engineers, supervisors, and contractors in our Sunnyvale Data Center. Leading these teams through implementation standards, infrastructure automation, best practices, and overall vision will be critical to our operational success as we scale to keep up with company demands.

What You Bring To The Team...

  • 5 years of experience leading a team responsible for a complex data center environment for both highly available, customer-facing applications as well as internal engineering environments
  • Demonstrated understanding of data center management/operations (i.e. environmental management, power management, compute deployment, and space management)Ability to gather and communicate meaningful operational metrics (employee workload, system utilization, system uptime, deployment times, etc).
  • Familiarity with DCIM, IPAM and other data center centric monitoring solutions (i.e. network monitoring, power monitoring, etc)
  • Vendor management with colocation providers, building relationships, and establishing site strategy
  • Understanding of industry security practices and complianceKnowledge of colocation and internet service provider’s products and technologies
  • The ability to provide leadership, direction, team building, coaching, and decision-making with employees and peers

Desired Experience...

  • Proven success in Interacting with a variety of customers, employees and partners on a regular basis
  • Experience with managing and facilitating proper communications among multiple geographically distributed teams.
  • Properly balancing priorities between multiple business units / customers, while identifying and resolving possible future conflicts between said stakeholders.
  • Managing multi-million dollar capex and opex budgets
  • Familiarity with proper root cause analysis and post mortem procedures regarding power, network or other data center related outages
  • Experience designing rack level systems and network architecture   

Bonus Qualifications...

  • Cisco CCNP Data Center certification or demonstrated equivalent knowledge of large scale IP networks.
  • Familiarity at least conceptually, if not first hand, with configuring enterprise grade storage appliances. NAS, Fiber Channel / iSCSI SAN, NVME, etc.
  • Willingness to travel between local locations in the bay area 1-2 times per week (Sunnyvale / Mountain View) as well as quarterly trips to Utah.
  • 3+ years of Linux Systems administration / scripting / automation experience

The annual base salary range is: $117,000 - $176,000. Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location. For positions open to candidates in multiple geographical locations, the base salary range is reflective of the labor market across the applicable locations. This role may be eligible for incentive pay and/or equity.
