About the job
This position is needed to partner with Product, Engineering and Marketing teams to support the product development lifecycle and provide practical advice to ensure compliance with applicable law, regulations and privacy by design best practices.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- Draft and negotiate data protection agreements with customers, suppliers, carriers and other third parties, including Data Processing Agreements and Business Associate Agreements;
- Support the review of new products, product features and other product-related matters to ensure compliance with privacy and data protection laws;
- Provide privacy legal support for marketing and advertising activities, M&A due diligence and integration and data subject rights processes;
- Support various areas of the business in evaluating the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance, enforcement actions and other obligations on new and existing processes and internal tools;
- Support Twilio’s global privacy program by developing and improving privacy frameworks and processes to ensure we meet our obligations under global privacy laws;
- Collaborate with other legal stakeholders and product teams to develop creative and scalable solutions to novel, complex privacy issues;
- Assist with supplier privacy reviews and ongoing monitoring;
- Provide expert privacy guidance and support as part of Twilio’s Incident Response Process;
- Triage and prioritize a dynamic workflow in alignment with enterprise and privacy team priorities, set appropriate expectations with internal business partners, while delivering results efficiently.
Qualifications

Required:
- Qualified to practice law and in good standing in US, UK other common law jurisdiction or EU member state
- 8 + years relevant legal experience at a law firm or in house;
- Experience in negotiating complex agreements with customers and suppliers;
- Knowledge of global privacy laws, regulations, privacy programs and industry standards;
- Detail oriented, self-starter with a desire to solve problems and excels at building collaborative working relationships across multiple teams/countries;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills and a sense of initiative.
Desired:
- Experience supporting notifications and communications with regulators and data subjects;
- Experience advising on marketing, both in and outside of the US;
- At least one IAPP certification
Location
This role will be remote but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, or the surrounding areas.

*Please note this role is open to candidates outside of Colorado, California, New York, and Washington. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.
The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- Based in Colorado: $164,480 - $205,600.
- Based in New York, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $174,160 - $217,700.
- Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $193,520 - $241,900.
- This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan. All roles are eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
