About the job

This position is needed to design and engineer AI powered features on Twilio’s Voice and Communications Intelligence product as part of growing our investment in utilizing artificial intelligence to support communications. The role joins an established team of software and machine learning engineers based in the US and EMEA building these features.

 

As a Staff Engineer, you'll be a pillar of our engineering team, playing a pivotal role in designing, building, and deploying the next generation of our distributed systems and microservices architecture.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead the design and development of complex software systems, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability.
  • Translate product & project requirements into clear technical tasks to lead engineers to build.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers, promoting best practices and coding standards.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define software requirements and scope of work.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Contribute to architectural decision-making and drive continuous improvement of software development processes.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues, and ensure the quality of software deliverables.
  • Ensure a high operational standard to meet Twilio’s SLOs and Customers expectations

Qualifications

Required:

  • 8+ years of experience with a proven track record of designing, building, and deploying large, scalable distributed systems and microservices architectures.
  • 7+ years of experience in Java, including advanced concepts like concurrency, multi-threading, and performance optimization. Experience with at least one framework in which you can be called an expert.
  • Proficiency using cloud platforms like AWS, including containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Expert in developing APIs and RESTful services, who understands how to model APIs and follow an API-First approach.
  • Knowledge of software architecture techniques like domain driven design, microservices, event driven design and hexagonal architecture.
  • Strong understanding of databases & data storage - including relation and document storage and with techniques like query optimization and data modeling principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

 

Desired:

  • Experience building machine learning powered software and with MLOps
  • Knowledge of telecommunications

 

Location

This role will be remote, and based in Colombia.

 

Travel
