Are you ready to join the programmatic evolution?

Index Exchange is looking to hire a Technical Writer. Awesome products deserve awesome documentation; like our products and solutions, our documentation is expertly crafted to help our users solve problems.

In this role, you’ll work closely with colleagues in Product Management, UX, Engineering, and customer-facing groups to understand user needs and create impactful external customer documentation, UI text, API documentation, and internal product documentation. This role gives you the opportunity to combine your passion for complex technology with your stellar writing skills to produce high-quality, varied, and highly technical documentation.

Hybrid - up to 3 days on-site and 2 remote.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Curious: You’re not afraid to ask questions. You feel a strong need to understand the full context and technical concepts behind what you’re working on.
  • Technical: You love technology and have a high technical aptitude. You can easily understand (and aren’t intimidated by) complex systems.
  • Proactive: You take ownership of your assigned product area. You take the initiative to keep up to date with what we’re building and follow up when necessary to unblock yourself and move work forward.
  • Passionate: You’re fully engaged with your assigned product area. You take a lot of pride in your work and strive for continuous improvements.
  • Results-Oriented: You’re driven by KPIs. You understand the business problems that you’re trying to solve with your documentation and are obsessed with meeting customer needs.
  • Empathetic: You advocate for users. You have a deep understanding of their needs and align your approach accordingly.

Here’s What You’ll be Doing:

  • Author a wide variety of internal-facing and external-facing technical documentation, including end-user documentation, internal product documentation, architecture diagrams, UI text, and API docs. If you love creating a wide variety of technical documentation in innovative ways, this is the place for you.
  • Steer the vision for the architecture, structure, and content of your documentation, always keeping customer needs and documentation standards in mind to guide these decisions.
  • Use internal templates, standards and our in-house style guide to create clear and reusable content.
  • Proactively identify documentation needs and gaps and plan your content accordingly.
  • Edit internal and external technical documentation, including peer reviewing other writers’ work.
  • Provide input and edits for UI copy.
  • Contribute to and help lead team projects, such as updating our documentation standards and best practices, or innovating on ways to create documentation as code.

Here's What You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English or similar. A Technical Writing certificate or other technical certificates or diplomas are a significant asset.
  • 3+ years of experience writing highly technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of authoring tools (such as Madcap Flare) and/or DITA to produce documentation.
  • Ability to learn technical concepts quickly and have an interest in learning about innovative solutions for documentation.
  • Experience authoring API documentation using API documentation tools like Stoplight or Readme is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is an asset.
  • Ad tech experience would be a significant asset but is not a strict requirement.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans at no cost to you
  • Time off and flexible work schedules
  • Retirement plan with a 5% company match
  • Stock options and equity packages
  • Generous parental leave
  • Monthly wellness stipend plus fitness discounts and quarterly wellness group activities
