ARCHITECT

SpaceX is preparing for an incredible launch cadence out of multiple launch complexes and process more payloads than ever. Existing and future SpaceX facilities are dynamic, adapting to changing requirements. This role is responsible for providing Architectural design, technical expertise and support for new construction and renovations to SpaceX facilities at our launch sites. The Architect is responsible for the preparation and execution of multi-discipline designs and coordination of construction documents for projects of varying size.RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design project team for multiple projects from concept through completion
  • Manage the design, development, and issuance of drawings, documentation, and reports for aerospace, large commercial or industrial type projects
  • Review existing project conditions, research legacy documents and drawings, evaluate constraints and risks throughout the life of a project
  • Develop the design planning and programing requirements with internal and external partners.
  • Perform preliminary occupancy, egress and life safety analysis for a wide range of projects, including modifications to existing facilities
  • Provide architectural technical expertise, own priorities for the resolution of facility architectural problems
  • Create and execute design solutions for problems of form, usability and physical ergonomics as required to be able to communicate project requirements and options to stakeholders
  • Coordinate the work of multiple disciplines involved in the design of each of the project scopes
  • Accountable for accurate budgeting and cost forecasting for the design phase of the project
  • Drive the design process, including coordinating technical review of all discipline work, scheduling design reviews with all project stakeholders, and measuring and reporting on design progress to project management team
  • Participate in the design and construction bidding process, including attendance at pre-bid meetings and walks, processing of pre-bid RFI’s, review of vendor proposals and award of project
  • Develop and maintain updated Revit models for each of the SpaceX assets at the Cape
  • Manage the project team’s in CAD / BIM project portfolio. Set-up project templates, workspaces, libraries, design options, hyperlinking and plots
  • Space planning for office assignments, furniture/ décor selection, management and tracking
  • Create conceptual/architectural renderings
  • Coordinate facilities projects to ensure vendors meet SpaceX, Air Force, and NASA standards while delivering promised services, materials, and craftsmanship
  • Improve the facilities department’s efficiency by developing automations and/or implementing novel construction techniques for quick delivery

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional bachelor’s degree in architecture from an NAAB accredited program, OR a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with a master's degree in architecture from an NAAB accredited program
  • 3+ years of professional experience in facilities design, renovation, or construction
  • Registered architect license

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of working knowledge of digital modeling platform and management tools (Navisworks, BIM 360, Autodesk Force and/or ReCap)
  • 1+ years’ experience in BlueBeam Revu / Extreme software and collaboration management in these tools
  • Knowledge and understanding of project management best practices
  • Excellent document management and organizational skills
  • Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance
  • Knowledge of industry standards & codes
  • Experience with importing and exporting metadata from models into lifecycle management tools
  • Ability to create / modify custom applications
  • Self-starter and possess the drive to pursue continued education on technologies utilized in the company
  • Ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment, under possible extended work hours and tight deadlines

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and offsite as needed.
  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
  • Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction
  • Physical effort including standing, lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials or equipment (15 to 35 lbs.)
  • Occasional travel may be required based on specific project tasks

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range: 

Level I: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00/per year

Level II: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
