Associate Photo Editor | Lonely Planet

Responsible for assisting with photo research for books, digital, and all imprints of Lonely Planet, as well as creating visual solutions for photo issues across the brand. This person will also be asked to assign and produce original shoots, perform some admin for the department, and build out stories in our CMS and newsletters.
What You’ll Do:
- Responsible for assisting with photo research for books, digital, and all imprints of Lonely Planet, as well as creating visual solutions for photo issues across the brand
- Assist with production for shoots across marketing, LP platforms, and social
- Work to assign and produce original shoots
- Perform some admin for the department with scheduling, budget, stock agencies and our DAM
- Build out stories in our CMS and newsletter
- Work with the photo director and editors to have a seamless understanding of how photography is being used across Lonely Planet, and assist in streamlining the use and implementation of high quality photography from books to digital and other platforms
- Juggle multiple stories, books, and projects at once
- Uphold existing copyright laws and artist’s rights in accordance with our policy and the law
- Ensure that Lonely Planet’s visual branding and guidelines are maintained across all platforms
- Learn the process of photo shoot production
- Can act as staff photographer when needed is an asset
- Additional responsibilities as discussed and assigned
- 2-3 years experience in photography or photo editing, with a DAM, or with a publisher working with images
- Familiarity with Adobe Suite, Photoshop, Bridge a must. Light retouching experience is an asset
- Proficiency in digital content workflow tools, such as AirTable, Asana and content management systems an asset
- Knowledge of varied image sources, basic knowledge of image rights, experience negotiating contracts and permissions a plus
- Excellent research and organizational skills
- Strong visual sense in regards to photography of all kinds
- Good eye for detail
- Enthusiasm for an editorial, fact based environment that aims to bring the best experience possible to today’s traveler
- Comfortable working on short term and long term projects and adjusting for deadlines
- Collaboration across teams
- Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, as well as with a team
- Experience working with a photo budget
Compensation
- USA Compensation Range: $75,000 - $90,000* *Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
