Senior Editor | Lonely Planet
Lonely Planet is looking for a Senior Editor to help source, onboard and manage a global pool of freelance editors for our industry leading guidebooks department. Working as part of a team, the Senior Editor will manage freelancer editors and designers, ensuring adherence to editorial standards and internal guidelines for our print division. You will perform the day-to-day project management required to deliver a book from proposal through product design, commissioning, production, pre-press and post-production. Through your delivery of high quality and profitable books and products, you will build upon Lonely Planet’s reputation as a trusted travel expert across the globe.
What You'll Do:
- Recruit and train new freelance editors
- Scheduling and contracting of resources
- Contribute to quality assurance efforts and maintenance of editorial standards, including adherence to Editorial Principles and our internal guidelines through:

- Ongoing checking of work and giving of feedback to freelance editors
- Ongoing support of freelance editors
- Development and maintenance of editorial style and process documentation

What We're Looking For:
- Extensive editorial experience (3–5 years)
- Prior experience (2+ years) with Lonely Planet’s structure, editorial style conventions and production processes
- High-level understanding and knowledge of general editorial conventions
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, InDesign
- Excellent eye for detail
- Excellent relationship building, training and liaison skills
- Excellent communication, problem solving and negotiation/persuasion skills
- A thorough understanding of operating in a content management system
- Ability to work independently but also as part of a team
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritise workload while maintaining strong attention to detail
- Must be customer focused with a flexible and adaptable attitude and a proactive, constructive approach
- Passion for travel
