Where you’ll work:

Depending on the needs of your business area, we expect hub based people to be in the office at least once a week, and to go to OVO Connection events in-person. 

You’ll be assigned to the closest one of our three hub offices, Bristol, Glasgow, or London; unless your role requires field-based work. Each hub has accessible spaces to park your laptop, is designed to inspire people, help them connect and bring big ideas to life.

Business Analysts in an Agile environment serve as a critical bridge between stakeholders and the development team, ensuring that business needs are translated into valuable, customer-centric product increments. This role drives product development by facilitating requirements gathering, backlog management, and agile ceremonies. By ensuring clear communication and collaboration, the Business Analyst maximizes the efficiency and effectiveness of the development process, delivering products that meet customer expectations and drive business growth.

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Delivered High-Value Product Increments: Consistently produce well-defined user stories and acceptance criteria, contributing to the timely delivery of product increments that meet business and customer needs.
  • Efficient Product Backlog Management: Maintain a prioritised and refined product backlog, ensuring alignment with sprint goals and business objectives, resulting in streamlined sprint execution and reduced waste.
  • Enhanced Team Collaboration and Communication: Facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the agile team, leading to increased sprint velocity and reduced impediments.
  • Data-Driven Product Decisions: Provide actionable insights through data analysis and reporting, enabling informed product decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Improved Stakeholder Satisfaction: Ensure clear and consistent communication with stakeholders, resulting in increased satisfaction and alignment on product vision and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Refine User Stories: Collaborate to gather and clarify requirements, creating clear user stories and acceptance criteria to guide development.
  • Manage the Product Backlog: Partner with the product owner to prioritise and maintain the product backlog, aligning it with OVO's objectives and sprint goals for efficient planning.
  • Facilitate Agile Practices: Actively participate in and support sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to foster effective team communication and collaboration.
  • Analyse Data for Insights: Gather and interpret data on product performance and sprint progress, producing reports and visualisations to offer actionable insights for the team and stakeholders.
  • Enhance Agile Processes: Identify and contribute to implementing improvements that boost team efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Bridge Communication: Ensure clear and consistent communication between stakeholders and the development team, promoting a collaborative environment aligned with OVO's product vision.
  • Map and Optimise Workflows: Analyse current and future workflows to identify and address bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure Requirements Traceability: Maintain a clear link between requirements and their implementation throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Contribute to Community of Practice: Actively engage with OVO's relevant Community of Practice, participating in discussions and contributing to shared goals with guidance.

 

You’ll be a successful Business Analyst at OVO if you have…

  • Experience in Agile environments like Scrum or Kanban, with a talent for guiding projects, effectively facilitating ceremonies, and clearly documenting requirements to ensure team alignment.
  • A strong ability to craft clear, user-centric stories and acceptance criteria, coupled with skill in strategically managing and prioritising product backlogs in partnership with stakeholders to drive value and efficient development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to articulate ideas clearly, facilitate productive discussions, and foster robust collaborative relationships within diverse, cross-functional teams to achieve OVO’s objectives.
  • A capacity to critically analyse complex issues, derive actionable insights from data (using tools like Jira/Confluence), and create reports that inform decision-making and support continuous improvement.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong organisational abilities, and an unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality work that provides exceptional value and satisfaction to OVO’s customers and stakeholders.
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach, allowing you to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic Agile settings, readily embrace change, and continuously seek opportunities for learning and development to enhance your contribution to OVO.

We’ll pay you between £34,000 and £49,000, depending on your specific skills and experience.

We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.

You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
