About the team:

Luno is a market leading crypto exchange on a mission to put the power of crypto into everyone’s hands, and we are building a market leading Compliance Advisory function to support these goals. With regional teams in place across APAC, Africa and Europe, including the UK, we are now looking to complement these capabilities with a Compliance Associate. The role in a nutshell:

We are looking for a driven and proactive Compliance Associate, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is capable of supporting the increasing needs of our business on a group scale to form part of the global Compliance Advisory team. Reporting to the Compliance Strategy Manager, you will be an integral member of the Compliance Advisory team and will work with all areas of the business to help ensure that Luno maintains a robust and industry leading compliance program. The successful candidate must be passionate about compliance, be hands on, with a drive to contribute to and enhance the strong compliance culture across the organisation.

Your mission will be:

  • Governance - You will be responsible for working closely with the business to compile Compliance reports, collate, manage and report on key risk indicators and be responsible for the coordination and management of such information. 
  • Policies and Standards - You will review, update and align all Compliance Policies / Minimum Standards when required (i.e as part of annual reviews) and liaise with the first line defence (i.e Anti-financial Crime and Onboarding) to ensure awareness of the Policies and Minimum Standards, and support with the  implementation of such.
  • Training and awareness - You will be required to develop (where required) and review global (company-wide), Compliance training material (i.e Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Anti-Money Laundering, Sanctions as well as the Anti-Facilitation of Tax Evasion) and work with the business to assist in the development, role out and management of role-based training.
  • External Due Diligence - Acting as the single point of contact with auditors and regulators in respect of Compliance requests, reviews, audits and inspections. You will be required to coordinate requests from external parties between internal teams and own the information sharing with banking and payment partners.
  • Record Keeping - You will uphold strict governance and record keeping in relation to the work that is undertaken i.e due diligence responses to banking partners to enable clear audit trails on shared information. 

In your first six months, you will:

  • Immerse yourself in Luno, ensuring you have a deep understanding of our business and our customers and our Compliance framework;
  • Develop strong relationships across the Luno team, and with key third parties; and
  • Become a trusted expert in all aspects of Luno’s Compliance programme, always with an eye to continuous improvement.

A little about you:

  • Previous experience working within a Compliance related role (experience in the cryptocurrency industry is desirable, but not essential);
  • Excellent understanding of the key areas within Compliance, including elements such as AML, CTF, Sanctions, ABC, with the ability to explain to the requirements of them to key stakeholders, in simple terms;
  • Previous experience of interacting with internal and external partners e.g. internal audit, banking partners etc. to demonstrate the effectiveness of organisational controls;
  • Exceptional attention to detail;
  • Excellent use of Google Docs, Sheets and Slides;
  • Entrepreneurial, strong sense of responsibility and very high level of integrity;
  • The ability to collaborate across geographies, functional areas and competencies;
  • A predisposition for taking ownership, be highly organised with a drive to succeed; 
  • A desire for continuous learning, with the ability to quickly adapt to an ever-changing environment; and
  • Record keeping skills.
