Compliance Assurance Analyst

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

  • Are you curious, excited by experimentation and always looking for a better way of doing things?
  • Do you want to keep learning and developing whilst getting hands-on, payment-building experience?
  • Do you want to have the opportunity to learn from payments experts and utilise your skills to help Modulr grow the business?
  • If so, we would love to hear from you!

We are looking to hire high-energy, and value-adding talented risk analyst to join Modulr, the fastest growing payments business in the UK and Europe.

About Us

At Modulr our mission is to move money efficiently to power business productivity. We are building a new digital payments service to make money flow more efficiently through businesses and the economy. This is a new type of payments account that is built for businesses that need faster, easier and more reliable ways to move money.

Our flexible platform and innovate approach allows our customers to utilise our payments account instead of a traditional bank account. Our accounts come with a sort code and account number, access to payment systems (eg Faster Payments and Visa) and everything our customers need from a payments account. They can instantly open as many accounts as they need, automate how they make and receive payments as well as the reconciliation processes these create. All in real time, 24/7 through their own systems utilising our API that integrates into any platform.

Our founding team has a wealth of experience in the payments industry and growing successful businesses. Modulr is backed by payments giants PayPal Ventures and FIS Ventures, as well as startup and scale up specialists Blenheim Chalcot, General Atlantic, Frog and Highland Europe which enables us to leverage their resources and expertise to drive our growth initiatives. These partnerships provide us with the necessary provisions to propel our business to new heights.

The Role

The Compliance Assurance Analyst is a key member of Modulr’s 2nd Line Risk and Compliance team. Their main responsibility will be undertaking periodic monitoring and testing of key controls and associated processes to ensure that they remain effective in mitigating our compliance risks. They will provide feedback to policy and functional owners and track identified issues through to resolution.

About you:

  • You take a structured and methodical approach to your work with a strong attention to detail and ensuring you deliver to a consistently high standard.
  • You are inquisitive and proactive – seeking the right data and contextual information so that your analysis is evidence-based and your recommendations are pragmatic and proportionate.
  • You have an excellent understanding of operational risk and appropriate controls.
  • You have a strong drive to support process and control improvement across all business functions to support Modulr’s continued business growth.
  • You work collaboratively with your immediate and extended team, being flexible when business priorities change.
  • You are confident communicating with and influencing stakeholders across the organisation, seeking to achieve the right outcome for Modulr at all times.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver against the compliance assurance plan – assessing the adequacy and effectiveness of controls including their compliance with relevant external rules and regulations and identifying corrective actions.
  • Communicate the results of compliance assurance through high quality evidence-based reports, identifying common themes and trends and providing insight to first line teams.
  • Ensure corrective and remediation actions are agreed and tracked through to resolution, escalating delays when required.
  • Contribute to the further development of the compliance assurance plan, consulting with stakeholders to ensure it is up-to-date, in line with business priorities, and risk-based.
  • Support Policy Owners to ensure policies are reviewed regularly, remain fit for purpose, and are embedded in BAU practices.
  • Provide accurate and timely management information that is appropriate for governance meetings including Audit and Risk Committees and Boards.
  • Review information provided by Incident Managers to determine if reporting thresholds for major operational/security incidents have been breached and if so, prepare the incident management reports for submission to the FCA.
  • Contribute to the preparation of regular and ad hoc regulatory reporting as required, for example amendments to EMD Agent details.
  • Work collaboratively with other areas of assurance including Head of Internal Audit and Heads of Risk and Compliance for both Modulr’s regulated entities (UK and Europe).
  • Contribute to the wider Second Line Risk and Compliance Team activities as required, such as championing an appropriate risk and compliance culture and delivering compliance awareness training on specific topics.
