About the Role

This is a fast paced environment and we are seeking candidates who are ready to thrive under pressure, roll up their sleeves to get the job done (no matter how small it seems), make decisions with broad latitude, and work collaboratively and professionally at all times. You must be a self-starter because there will be limited oversight. You must also be an independent thinker because assumptions will be challenged. The successful candidate will be someone who takes pride in their work and doesn’t care how long it takes to see the job done right.  

Job Functions

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Audit current systems to document processes and ensure complete records
  • Oversee and participate in the daily operations of accounting including recording journal entries, cleaning up the balance sheet, remapping account hierarchies, etc.
  • Coordinate external audits and financial reviews, liaising with auditors to address any findings and ensure the integrity of our financial reporting process.
  • Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards and regulations, assessing their impact on our financial reporting and implementing necessary updates or changes as required.
  • Conduct a financial operations audit, in partnership with Technology leadership, to validate data workflows

Treasury Management and Cash Flow Optimization:

  • Manage the company's cash flow and liquidity, optimizing working capital and investment strategies to support ongoing operations and strategic initiatives. Partner with centralized Treasury function in Europe to request funding and forecast monthly cash flow.
  • Oversee banking relationships and debt financing activities, ensuring compliance with loan agreements and maintaining strong financial relationships with lenders and financial institutions.

Risk Management and Internal Controls:

  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting, identifying and mitigating risks related to financial operations and ensuring the integrity of our financial data.
  • Monitor compliance with internal policies and procedures, conducting periodic assessments and audits to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Managing two small teams of domestic accountants, and getting the most out of several offshore consulting vendors
  • Seek new and innovative ways of improving current processes
  • Recruit and develop talent to get the most out of your employees and drive value for Common
  • Organize shared drive to archive old information and make new data easily available

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years’ experience in the finance, accounting, or financial audit, preferably at a managerial capacity
  • CPA holder
  • Experience with NetSuite, Entrata and AvidExchange a plus; or demonstrated ability to learn new systems/apply old concepts to new systems in order to learn our accounting systems quickly
  • Excellent problem identification and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills including demonstrated ability to create clear reports and documentation
  • Excellent people skills are required in order to rebuild the team and develop existing employees
  • Organizational skills and close attention to detail are important in this position, as is the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Master’s degree is preferred

Compensation

  • $165,000 - $180,000 annually + bonus
