CNET is a premier destination for expert, unique and timely information that helps people navigate our changing world. We’re seeking a journalist with experience using data to create compelling narratives that inspire and inform readers. 

As a data journalist, you’ll work closely with CNET’s industry-leading testing lab as well as expert reviewers across a range of categories. Together, you’ll collect and leverage data insights from CNET’s hands-on reviews to use as fodder for fascinating stories about technology and the way it affects our lives. You’ll be especially focused on using data to enrich CNET’s storytelling capabilities and connect with a broad audience of tech consumers.

We offer a supportive, collaborative editorial team that takes our work (but not ourselves) seriously, plus regular coaching and mentorship.

This is ideally a hybrid role, with at least two days in the office each week. Candidates may be based in Louisville,KY, New York, NY, Charlotte,NC, or they may be remote.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop original ideas for articles, stories, or series that leverage unique data to create expert, unique, and helpful content for CNET readers
  • Work across teams with editors, reviewers, designers, and video editors to bring data-based stories to life 
  • Create exciting headlines and deliver clear, colorful, engaging content
  • Work cross-functionally to update and improve existing content
  • Collaborate with designers and editors to create data visualizations
  • Contribute to raising the data proficiency of the CNET team

What We’re Looking For:

  • Demonstrated experience working with data and data visualization tools 
  • Excellent communication skills and strong grasp of journalism best practices
  • Experience reporting, fact-checking, and cultivating a robust network of sources
  • The ability to help readers cut through noise and to report on what matters
  • Flexibility and interest in growing a career that could develop into coverage of a variety of consumer technologies and topics

Compensation

  • Cash Compensation Range: $60,000 - 80,000
  • New York City Compensation Range: $60,000 - 95,000*Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
