At Lyft, our mission is to improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation. To do this, we start with our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization.

Lyft connects people to transportation to change the way we live and get around our communities. Lyft is also North America’s leader in micromobility.  We own and/or operate bikeshare/scooters in several major US cities, such as New York (Citi Bike), Chicago (Divvy), and Denver. Our active fleet includes state-of-the-art electric bikes and scooters, services tens of millions of rides per year, and is rapidly growing.

Data Science is at the heart of Lyft’s products and decision-making. As a Data Scientist supporting the Rider team under Lyft’s micromobility line of business, you will be supporting a team dedicated to growing and improving the micromobility ride experience. You will leverage data and rigorous, analytical thinking to shape the team’s product and business decisions. You will identify and scope opportunities, shape priorities, recommend solutions, build data pipelines/dashboards, design experiments, and measure impact. You will clearly communicate results to cross-functional stakeholders, both internal and external.

Some example projects a Data Scientist may be expected to support or drive:

  • Designing the optimal rider XP/policy to nudge and educate riders on proper riding behavior (e.g. compliant parking)
  • Quantifying the prevalence and severity of negative ride experiences and how it impacts future riding behavior.
  • Identifying large opportunities for and measuring the impact of improving micromobility ride reliability

You will report to a Data Science Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with product managers, engineers, and designers to create and deliver on the team’s product roadmap via analytics and modeling support.
  • Measure feature outcomes and success via sound experimental design and analysis
  • Build data pipelines, develop metrics, and create dashboard visualizations to monitor business and product performance across regions for internal and external stakeholders
  • Clearly communicate with internal cross-functional and external government stakeholders to influence decisions

Experience:

  • Degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, economics, applied math, operations research or engineering (advanced degrees preferred), or relevant work experience
  • 3+ years of industry experience in a data science or analytics role.
  • Proficiency in SQL - able to write structured and efficient queries on large data sets
  • Experience in programming, especially with data science and visualization libraries in Python or R
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with and influence internal cross-functional partners
