Title: Developer Advocate for Data Engineering and Delta Lake

Databricks has built a powerful collection of open source software and commercial services to help make data teams around the world more successful in solving tough problems. Our ability to execute this mission depends on data engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and machine learning practitioners all having great experience in a scalable way.

As a Developer Advocate for Delta Lake, you'll share your knowledge and be a conduit between the PM and Engineering teams at Databricks and the external community of data engineers building their careers on technologies like the open source Delta Lake project. You'll share your knowledge by giving talks, hosting panels and meetups, blogging, writing books, developing courseware, answering forum questions, and meeting 1:1 with influential data engineers in the community. You'll work closely with the open source community building Delta Lake as well as the engineers at Databricks working on data engineering infrastructure.

This position will report to the Head of Developer Relations and work with other Developer Advocates and program managers. The Developer Relations team is passionate about data, empathetic to the needs of developers, and strong believers in using our diverse set of skills to explain our products and use feedback from the community to improve the developer experience.

The impact you will have:

  • Generate awareness for Delta Lake by establishing it as a leading technical solution through regular speaking engagements at industry events.
  • Expand Delta Lake meetups and user groups to attract tens of thousands of participants, fostering a thriving community.
  • Foster enthusiasm for Delta Lake by leveraging creativity and innovation to create engaging experiences and content, welcoming novel perspectives and stimulating discussions.
  • Enable data engineers to excel in building their data infrastructure with Delta Lake.
  • Empower data engineers to efficiently reach their objectives and share their success stories.
  • Facilitate the widespread adoption of new Delta Lake features by creating high-quality educational resources such as videos, sample notebooks, tutorials, and blog posts.
  • Advocate for the needs and desires of the Delta Lake community within Databricks, ensuring their voices are heard and considered by other teams.
  • Provide robust support for users across platforms like Slack, StackOverflow, and online communities to stay attuned to their feedback and requirements.

What we look for:

  • You are a software developer with subject matter knowledge in solving data engineering problems at all levels of scale.
  • You are a leader in the Delta Lake data practitioner communities. 
  • You have experience managing, operationalizing, and engaging with developer communities, running user groups, or holding global meetups. 
  • You have experience working with and contributing to open source communities.
  • You are a solid communicator with experience writing about, teaching, and speaking about complex technical topics.
  • You have empathy and understanding of developer personas and are able to apply that toward the design and development of good experiences in tutorials, notebooks, communities, and more.

Pay Range Transparency

Databricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles.  Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. Based on the factors above, Databricks utilizes the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above. Local Pay Range$107,400—$190,000 USD
