We are seeking a Director, Global Employee Relations & Compliance to join our Employee Relations & Compliance (ER&C) team. This role will lead a global team of ER&C professionals supporting a variety of critical people programs including global performance management, international grievances, and international HR compliance. It will also provide strategic support and guidance to business leaders and the People Business Partner (PBP) team to foster a high-trust, high-performance culture across Okta. This role will work closely with Legal and People COEs to promote equity, company values, performance excellence, and accountability in the workplace.
This role requires a strategic professional who stays abreast of risks, themes, and developments in ER&C, especially in the EMEA and APJ regions. You will develop strong relationships across the company to prioritize and mitigate risks and build strong global processes to ensure a fair and consistent employee experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, strategy, and vision to the continued build of process and structure in the following ER&C areas: Global Performance Management; EMEA and APJ grievance and employee corrective action; EMEA and APJ HR Compliance requirements
- Lead a team of global ER&C professionals by exhibiting strong leadership acumen, with a focus on team development, career growth, and leading with care and empathy
- Serve as a member of the ER&C Leadership Team working to scale and refine the ER&C function, including the development of reactive and proactive initiatives, production of data analytics, and providing global employee relations support, thus ensuring an equitable and transparent employee experience across the company
- Support any go-live efforts as Okta expands into new regions within EMEA and/or APJ
- Support Okta’s leaders and PBPs with performance management and organizational health, providing recommendations and guidance in line with Okta’s established guidelines
- Expand performance case management operations in EMEA and APJ to enhance employee experience and ensure process integrity
- Participate in the development and deployment of ER-related training, including dedicated ownership over international training efforts
- Provide regular reporting of ER&C activity and results in EMEA and APJ to drive organizational health and maturity
Knowledge & Requirements:
- Strong leadership skills with demonstrated experience building effective teams and driving results
- Strong understanding of global labor and employment laws and global compliance requirements
- Project management experience or experience as a key project contributor
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, facilitate change, and deliver results; demonstrated vision to define and effectively manage strategies, change structures, and change processes necessary to address program priorities
- Develop trust and rapport and influence cross-functional partners and business leaders
- Ability to navigate ambiguity within a fast-moving and changing environment
- Ability to use independent judgment, reasoning and analysis, problem-solving skills, and creativity in helping the business solve complex problems
- Strong interpersonal skills, as demonstrated by strong written and oral communication
- High emotional intelligence
- Effective at managing time and resources while prioritizing and balancing multiple commitments
Basic Qualifications:
- Advanced degree, law degree, or other specialized training in employment law, compliance, and/or risk mitigation
- Minimum 8 years of relevant international employee relations and compliance experience
- Minimum 5 years of people leadership experience
- Experience supporting international employees and international processes and compliance requirements
- Comfortable working with any level of employee or manager
- Able to read a situation and navigate complexity and ambiguity
- Demonstrated sound judgment and experience in assessing and mitigating risk
- Willingness to support multiple geographies and time zones

Below is the annual On Target Compensation (OTE) range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual OTE, which is inclusive of base salary and incentive compensation, will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable) and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual OTE range for this position for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York, and Washington is between:$166,000—$276,000 USD The OTE range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between:$206,000—$310,000 USDWhat you can look forward to as an Full-Time Okta employee!
