We are currently seeking an experienced Employee Relations & Compliance Manager to be a part of our growing Employee Relations & Compliance team.  This role will conduct investigations into workplace concerns to ensure compliance with employment laws and company policies and will also provide guidance and recommendations to support positive employee engagement that drives Okta’s culture forward.  It will also provide support to the People Business Partner team and business leaders with managing underperforming employees as needed. This role will work closely with the People Business Partners, Legal, and Compliance teams to promote equity, company values, and accountability in the workplace and to respond appropriately and fairly to employee concerns. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct prompt and thorough investigations into sensitive employee relations issues, including EEO concerns, and make objective recommendations based on findings. This includes conducting investigative interviews, collecting/reviewing other relevant evidence, analyzing findings to determine whether allegations are substantiated, writing investigation reports, and debriefing relevant stakeholders.
  • Administer employee corrective action when warranted based on investigation findings.Ensure consistent application of policies and procedures.  
  • Use a case management system to document case activity, upload investigative documents, and track investigative outcomes.
  • Present training to people managers and leaders that enables them to appropriately identify and escalate employee relations issues, manage their teams in a compliant way, and support the investigation process.
  • Foster effective relationships with People Business Partner teams, business leaders, and Employment Legal.
  • Coach People Business Partners and managers on how to appropriately manage and resolve moderately complex ER and performance management issues.
  • Support Okta’s leaders and PBPs with performance management and position elimination matters, providing recommendations and guidance in line with Okta’s established guidelines.
  • Support the build of Okta’s Alternative Dispute Resolution program
  • Partner with team members throughout the entire People organization to educate all employees on policies, procedures, and other people compliance principles.
  • Collaborate with Employee Relations leadership to scale and refine the Employee Relations function by developing reactive and proactive initiatives, producing data analytics, providing global employee relations support, and otherwise working to ensure an equitable and transparent employee experience across the company.
  • Participate in the development and deployment of internal ER training and other team projects as needed.

  • Ability to use independent judgment, reasoning and analysis, problem-solving skills, and creativity in helping the business solve complex problems
  • Project management experience or experience as a key project contributor

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant employee relations experience, including a focus on workplace investigations, employment legal, performance management, and/or HR business partnering experiences
  • Solid understanding of federal, state, and local labor and employment laws
  • Comfortable working with any level of employee or manager; able to read a situation and navigate complexity and ambiguity
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and experience in assessing and mitigating risk 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, law degree, or other specialized training in employment investigations and employment law a plus
  • Experience supporting international employees and conducting international employment investigations is a plus
  • Experience supporting international employees with performance management a plus

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, New York, and Washington is between:$132,000—$198,000 USD The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $148,000—$222,000 USD
