Position: Director, HR Business Partner (HRBP) – China

Location: Shanghai, China

About the Role: 

The Director, HR Business Partner (HRBP) for China will play a critical role in aligning HR strategies with business objectives. This position is responsible for driving HR initiatives that support the growth and success of our operations in mainland China. Being a trustable partner of China leadership team, The Director, HRBP will partner with senior leaders to address organizational needs in talent management, performance management, compensation, career development, and employee engagement, ensuring compliance with local regulations and alignment with global standards.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Strategy and Organization Development:
  • Collaborate with regional and global HR teams to develop and implement HR strategies that support business objectives in China.
    • Partner with senior leaders to provide data-driven insights and recommendations for organizational design and workforce planning.
    • Develop communication and change management plans for organizational changes.
    • Support global/market expansion and site launch plans with strategic HR guidance.
  • Talent Management and Development:
    • Facilitate talent discussions and drive the identification and management of promotions and succession planning.
    • Oversee performance management processes, ensuring consistency and alignment with market competitiveness.
    • Partner with senior leaders to define and achieve talent-related success metrics, including retention and diversity.
    • Partner with the Talent Acquisition team to develop and execute hiring strategies that align with business growth and expansion plans.
    • Design and implement training and development programs in collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Employee Engagement and Organizational Health:
    • Conduct diagnostics to identify trends and address workplace environment, employee engagement, and retention issues.
    • Lead strategic employee relations initiatives and serve as an escalation point for critical topics. Provide coaching and consultation to key leaders when needed
    • Monitor organizational health through engagement surveys and other metrics, providing actionable insights to leadership.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Build strong business relationships with internal stakeholders, acting as the main point of contact for all people-related matters in China.
    • Ensure effective two-way communication on standard topics, business needs, and upcoming initiatives.
    • Consult with regional or country-specific HR for promotions, compensation, performance improvement, and terminations.
  • HR Operations and Compliance:
    • Ensure quality and accuracy of HR data through regular audits and process improvements.
    • Interpret policies and provide guidance on their application to business leaders.
    • Partner with central teams to influence and improve HR services and policies.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field (master’s preferred).
    • Minimum of 10 years of relevant HR experience, with at least 7 years in a senior HRBP role.
    • Proven experience in a global or multinational company, with a strong understanding of Chinese employment laws and regulations.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with business leaders. Proficiency in HRIS and other HR-related software.
