Elastic is actively seeking a Director of Customer Engineering to helm our specialized efforts in the US Public Sector business unit. Recognizing the distinct challenges and requirements of this sector, we strive to offer unparalleled Observability, Cybersecurity, and Search solutions tailored to the public domain. The right candidate will be at the crossroads of technical expertise and public sector know-how.

Role Overview:

As the Director of Customer Engineering for the US Public Sector, the selected individual will need to possess a deep understanding of both the technological intricacies of our solutions and the unique dynamics of the public sector. This role will involve directly overseeing a team of Customer Architects and Customer Success Executives dedicated to the US Public Sector.

In this customer-facing role, your primary responsibilities will encompass establishing and building trusted relationships with public sector entities, with 50% travel to meet stakeholders face-to-face. Your interactions will focus on articulating the benefits of our solutions, driving consumption, and guiding your teams towards the same goal. The Director's pivotal position demonstrates Elastic's commitment to the US Public Sector. Ensuring that our solutions are finely tuned to meet public sector needs is crucial. Familiarity and prior experience in this domain are indispensable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Direct and nurture a team of Customer Architects and Customer Success Executives, encouraging a culture that combines public sector awareness with Elastic's values.
  • Technical Expertise: Act as the primary technical leader for the US Public Sector business unit, ensuring Elastic's solutions are aptly tailored to meet the specific needs of this sector. A background in sales engineering leadership is beneficial.
  • Strategic Outlook: Shape the direction for Elastic's involvement in the public sector. Ensure that our teams are fully equipped to address the distinct challenges and opportunities in this domain, always aiming to boost consumption.
  • Sector Understanding: Draw upon experience and insights from the public sector landscape to refine our strategies and offerings. This will involve collaborating closely with public sector representatives to understand their needs and challenges.
  • Collaborative Approach: Partner with regional sales leaders, account teams, and other internal stakeholders, ensuring that Elastic's strategies in the public sector are cohesive and aligned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Proven leadership experience, preferably with teams focusing on consumption.
  • Technical depth in distributed datastores, observability, cybersecurity, or search. Experience with Elastic solutions is desirable.
  • Previous involvement or familiarity with the US Public Sector, understanding its nuances and requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, adept at translating technical details to a public sector audience.
  • Strategic thinker, able to juggle the distinct demands of the public sector with the technical offerings of Elastic.

Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary.  This role does not have a variable compensation component.  

The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below.  In select locations (including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area), an alternate range may apply as specified below. 

These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future.  

An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Elastic believes that employees should have the opportunity to share in the value that we create together for our shareholders. Therefore, in addition to cash compensation, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program.  Our total rewards package also includes a company-matched 401k with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, along with a range of other benefits offered with a holistic emphasis on employee well-being.
