We are seeking a visionary and experienced Director of Engineering Operations to lead and manage various critical functions within the engineering department. The Director of Engineering Operations is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing and enhancing various aspects of the engineering department, including Tech Onboarding, Tech Learning, Knowledge Management, Engineering Community, and leading Technical Program Management. This role requires a deep understanding of engineering and the ability to build and lead teams that ensure the department operates smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities

Tech Onboarding and Learning:

  • Develop and manage comprehensive onboarding programs for new engineering hires, ensuring they quickly become productive members of their respective teams.
  • Oversee continuous learning initiatives to keep engineering staff updated on the latest technologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal and external experts to design and deliver effective training programs.

Knowledge Management:

  • Establish and maintain a structured knowledge management system to capture, organize, and disseminate critical engineering knowledge and best practices.
  • Implement tools and processes that facilitate efficient knowledge sharing and access across the engineering department.

Engineering Ops Programs:

  • Coordinate weekly, monthly, quarterly multi-layer leadership meetings, agenda for engineering events, establish a strong governance, follow up framework
  • Define, identify workflows, metrics, and process improvement opportunities as appropriate for execution efficiency & KPIs

Engineering Community:

  • Foster a vibrant and inclusive engineering community where team members collaborate, share ideas, and grow together.
  • Develop and lead initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion within the engineering department.

Technical Program Management:

  • Manage a team of Technical Program Managers responsible for planning, executing, and delivering technical initiatives on schedule and within budget.
  • Align and influence key leaders to ensure smooth execution of projects, programs across engineering, program/product management, to deliver complex SW solutions with multi-site, multi-team dependencies

Data Driven Decision Making | Reporting:

  • Define program goals and KPIs, and regularly report progress to the executive leadership team.
  • Define, drive engineering KPIs, metrics, reporting dashboards to track timely, high quality project execution, product deliverables
  • Generate reports, analytics to improve execution
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or project/program management certifications such as PMP
  • Proven experience in engineering operations, technical onboarding, learning, knowledge management, and program management.
  • 10+ years of experience in program, project management, or engineering operational leadership role for a large org
  • Prior experience driving alignment across large cross functional teams including Product Line Managers, Engineering, and Support organizations
  • Has a strong understanding of embedded, cloud software processes & agile development methodologies and working knowledge of various R & D, field core job responsibilities
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build, mentor, and manage high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to set departmental objectives aligned with organizational goals.
  • Proficiency in knowledge management systems and best practices.
  • Familiarity with engineering tools, methodologies, and project management.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Experience in promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace is a plus.
  • Familiarity with execution tracking tools such like Jira, Rally, etc is preferred.
Total Rewards

Salary/OTE is just one component of Dropbox’s total rewards package. All regular employees are also eligible for the corporate bonus program or a sales incentive (target included in OTE) as well as stock in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). 

Current Salary/OTE Ranges (Subject to change):C$224,400 - C$264,000 - C$303,600
