We are looking for an Software Development Manager to lead the documentation engineering team. This is a hands-on engineering manager role for the team that is responsible for publishing technical documentation for all Elastic products, which include our Search, Observability, and Security Solutions.

What You Will Be Doing

• Manage, mentor, and lead a distributed team of experienced engineers
• Work collaboratively with adjacent teams to leverage common solutions where appropriate and coordinate deliverables
• Lead the efficient development, maintenance, and evolution of a multi-faceted publication platform used by the documentation team as well as internal and external contributors
• Build roadmaps and lead prioritization; balance the right amount of structure and planning for a fast-paced engineering team
• Work with our product manager and our documentation managers to ensure requirements and the “why” are clear
• Foster a culture of mutual respect and collaborative decision-making
• Promote knowledge sharing with team, organization, and community
• Support development and training through regular coaching and performance evaluations
• Identify staffing requirements and help drive recruitment of high-quality colleagues

What You Bring Along

• Experience leading distributed teams across multiple time zones
• Real passion for documentation and its role in the customer experience
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills
• Collaborative style, open communicator, effective working asynchronously
• Self-motivated, good attention to detail and highly organized
• Your heart is in the right place, a good sense of humor and a genuine interest in the people you work with

Experience in some of the following areas would be ideal

• Software engineering experience in Full Stack, JavaScript build systems, and documentation systems
• SaaS experience
