DSX Content Designer

Why We Have This Role

We’re looking for a content designer and UX writer to help develop and strengthen the messaging across our digital support products and experiences. You know how words make a difference from the earliest, strategic design explorations through final positioning and launch messaging. This includes crafting landing pages, UI components, personalized content, tool tips, editorial content, and feature naming. You’ll evangelize the power of simple, straightforward language, and balance significant long term product goals with short term tactical deliverables.

 

How You’ll Find Success

In this role you will be responsible for digital support UX writing, including planning, creating, and maintaining technical learning content as an integral part of the product launch process and ongoing user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their skill in explaining complex topics in a way that is useful to their audience, which is enabled by their ability to deeply understand complex technical functionality and collaborate across Product Engineering, Product Management, and UX.

  • Develop your leadership skills through continuous cross-organizational collaboration, including working with increasingly senior stakeholders and mentoring new team members.
  • Learn and develop hard skills, such as HTML, SEO, and writing skills. Over time, you’ll become an expert in these spaces. 
  • Learn UX principles by becoming UX Writing certified and collaborating with product development teams during the early stages of the product lifecyle, where you have the opportunity to influence product design.
 

Things You’ll Do 

  • Create simple and human product experiences and documentation for users, developers, administrators, and internal stakeholders
  • Integrate the latest standards in interaction design and trends in user design into the digital support product creating the most intuitive and easy to use resource in the market
  • Research, write, and ensure the accuracy of content that covers current and future releases of our product
  • Create and implement a simple and scalable information hierarchy, clear terminology, and navigation to create UX flows that transform the customer journey from confusing to intuitively easy
  • Analyze operational and usability data and translate it into concrete content strategy improvements 
  • Accurately prioritize documentation, from the layout of content on a page to finding its accurate place in the entire documentation taxonomy, with search optimization in mind
  • Continuously improve documentation by responding to and incorporating feedback from customers and internal users
  • Act as a subject matter authority for the product by giving constructive feedback to the work of your peers and reviewing your own work with others
  • Utilize your experience working with Markdown, HTML, CSS, and XML to publish content
  • Understand, apply, and provide input on editorial strategy to drive alignment on voice and tone
  • Collaborate with localization analysts to ensure content is optimized for translation 
  • Spend time with customers and colleagues learning from them what would make a world-class digital support experience 
  • Interact frequently with Product Engineers, Product Managers, and UX to gain a deep technical expertise in product functionality and capability

 

What We’re Looking For On Your Resume

  • Ability to learn highly technical products quickly, using pre-release software, internal documentation, and technical discussions with Product Engineers and Product Managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complicated concepts into content that is accessible to audiences with mixed levels of expertise.
  • Understanding of source control systems and maintaining multiple versions of content.
  • Familiarity with SCRUM / Agile development.
  • Ability to obtain information through research, interviews, and experimentation.
  • Ability to work with geographically distributed team members and developers.
  • Ability to write simple code examples.
  • Comfortable leading meetings, presenting, and communicating statuses to a diverse set of cross-functional peers.
  • A portfolio demonstrating ability to produce high quality written technical content. B2B SaaS work samples highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Lean and Agile development principles and frameworks (such as SCRUM)
  • Knowledge of web accessibility principles and experience in designing for accessibility
  • 2+ years experience as a UX writer or similar role with a UX or product design team
  • 2+ years experience in a digital technology environment with a record of successfully designing and delivering complex solutions
  • Bachelor’s degree in a design or technology field preferred

For full-time positions, this pay range is for base per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, education, skills, and experience. For part-time or intern positions, this pay range is for base pay per hour. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be included in an employment offer, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and other benefits, based on eligibility criteria.

Washington State Pay Transparency Range$118,000—$128,500 USD
