The Cloud Security team at Elastic is dedicated to developing innovative solutions that protect cloud-native environments. The team is responsible for delivering posture management solutions, consolidating visibility across diverse cloud environments and delivering contextual threat detection, comprehensive investigation capabilities, and streamlined response workflows.
As the Engineering Manager for our distributed team, you will lead the development cycle for cloud security on Kibana, a top-notch open-source tool. You will collaborate closely with our talented engineers, design, and product teams. Your leadership will be instrumental in fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth, ensuring the delivery of quality solutions, optimizing team efficiency, and mentoring team members to achieve their full potential.
What you will be doing:
- Lead and Mentor: Guide a globally distributed team in fostering a culture of mutual respect, collaboration, and continuous learning. Regularly conduct check-ins, provide guidance, and support to motivate engineers to excel.
- Drive Development: Oversee the entire development cycle, ensuring the delivery of high-quality and innovative features. Manage sprints effectively and lead architecture discussions to make informed decisions and ensure follow-through on actions. Additionally, handle customer issues promptly and effectively, collaborating with the support team to address technical challenges and provide timely resolutions.
- Collaboration and Planning: Work closely with Product Managers to define requirements. Actively participate in project planning and execution, collaborating with other team leads and tech leads to build roadmaps, prioritize tasks, and achieve goals.
- Promote Engineering Excellence: Conduct design and code reviews, advocating for test automation, telemetry, and scalability. Uphold and balance software development principles to maintain structure and agility within the team.
- Onboarding and Training: Facilitate the onboarding of new engineers, aligning them with team goals, processes, and milestones. Support ongoing development and training through regular performance evaluations and one-on-one meetings.
- Recruitment and Culture: Lead the interview process to drive team growth and cultivate a positive work environment. Be a supportive and approachable leader, contributing to a culture where all team members thrive.
What you bring along: (Avoid specifying a degree)
- Technical Proficiency: strong hands on background in JavaScript, Node.js, and web development technologies (preferably React).
- Leadership Experience: proven leadership experience with large teams. Ability to mentor and guide developers, set goals, and ensure project deadlines are met.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication is crucial for a manager. communicating clearly with team members, stakeholders, and other teams, both verbally and in writing.
- Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to analyze complex problems, propose solutions, and make decisions is essential.
- Team Player: collaborates well with others, fosters a positive team culture, and encourages teamwork and knowledge sharing among team members.
- Project Management Skills: Experience in Agile methodologies, project planning, and resource allocation is beneficial. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage sprints, and track progress effectively.
- Adaptability and Agility: as the technology and product landscapes evolve, you should be adaptable and open to learning new tools, technologies, and changes in the product side as needed
- Results-Oriented: focused on delivering results, meeting objectives, and continuously improving team performance.
Bonus points:
- Familiarity with Kibana and the Elastic Stack.
- Experience in developing a security-related SaaS product.
- Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies.
- Experience in working in a distributed team across different locations worldwide.
