The Product

Okta’s Customer Identity Cloud (CIC), powered by Auth0 technology, is an easy-to-implement authentication and authorization platform designed by developers for developers.  We make access to applications safe, secure, and seamless for the more than 100 million daily logins around the world. The Role

This role is for you if you like solving non-trivial problems and if you like to help people and teams grow and achieve amazing things.

IAM is the Engineering Domain that takes care of the core of the Auth0 application: the authentication pipeline, the protocols, the sessions and the identity security mechanisms.

The team you would be managing is the IAM Foundations team - an enabler to our other IAM product teams, ensuring we have effective tooling and shared capabilities, as well as robust cross-team utilitary services that allows them to focus on delivering business value safely and at a quicker pace thanks to our support.

We mostly work with a NodeJS backend (Javascript or Typescript), and use MongoDB,  PostgreSQL and Redis to store our data. Our services run on AWS (mostly) and Azure.

As an Engineering Manager, you will: 

  • Coach and help people on the team to grow and perform
  • Hire great engineers to join your team
  • Manage the distributed team and work on several key capabilities for the Auth0 platform
  • Work closely with the team’s stakeholders to define roadmap and priorities
  • Contribute to improving our product architecture patterns, security controls and best practices
  • Participate in the assessment and adaptation of engineering processes and best practices

You're a good fit for this role if you:

  • Have 2+ years of engineering management/lead experience
  • Are passionate and have experience building highly functional, healthy, inclusive, and collaborative teams
  • Have experience leading a highly  technical team and are good at coaching teammates in all phases of their career
  • Know when to let the team figure things out on their own and also have the necessary context and skills to help them out and be hands on
  • Have a technical background and experience, allowing you to shape the team’s technical roadmap and help evaluate trade-offs during design and development
  • Work well with technical and non-technical people to deliver high-value results
  • Know how to focus teams to achieve their goals
  • Have a systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive

Bonus points if you:

  • Have experience managing a fully distributed, remote team
  • Have experience with developer enablement and accelerating development teams through best practices and shared tooling

We do not expect you to be an expert in all of the above, only that you are eager and can learn the less familiar ones fast!
