The Opportunity:

We are currently hiring an Engineering Manager to join us at commercetools, supporting the Omnichannel Team. As an experienced Agile servant leader, you’ll work closely with the Product Manager and Omnichannel Leader to enable retailers to use commercetools’ solutions across multiple channels.

Your Mission:

  • You are responsible for the people and culture in your team:
    • You are vital for making your team a better place by growing your people and investing in your team’s health, motivation, career, culture, and team building 
    • You foster a culture of mutual constructive feedback and support in your team and that everyone feels safe to express their ideas and suggestions
    • You conduct great 1-1 with your engineers
  • You are responsible for the delivery and the processes of your team:
    • You are crucial for getting things rolling and ensuring a smooth delivery 
    • You are removing blockers and seeking process improvements collaboratively with your team and your Product Manager
  • You are curious instead of certain and on a continuous journey to improve your team
  • You live and breathe our tech vision and consult the engineers accordingly
  • You work collaboratively and collaborate with Engineering Managers of other teams, Tech Leads, Agile Coaches, a People Business Partner, Head of Engineering, and the CTO

What you need to succeed:

  • Multiple years of experience as a manager of software engineers in a product team
  • An engineering background ideally in web-based technologies
  • A passion for growing, coaching, and mentoring your team with a track record of doing so
  • Experience in leading distributed teams and fostering belonging in a remote setup
  • An excellent understanding of agile software development methodologies, best practices, and tools. You know their trade-offs and how they can support a smooth delivery of your team’s goals
  • A solid understanding of software architecture and system design
  • A beginner’s mindset
  • Excellent soft skills, most importantly communication, empathy, and self-reflection
  • Fluent written and spoken English skills to work in an international environment
  • Excitement to share your knowledge and learn from everyone around you about leadership and new technologies

Nice to have:

  • Experience in a retail store setting including payment processing and physical devices 
  • Experience with MACH principles and solutions composed in MACH environments
  • Experience in retail or commerce-enabling Cloud/SaaS solutions
