Lyft’s Bikes & Scooters team is developing the future of micro-mobility and we are looking for a Field Quality Engineer to come and help build world-class micro-mobility hardware that can withstand the challenging environment of shared bikes and scooters.

Responsibilities:
  • Partner with engineering, operations and science teams to create and support the tools and processes necessary to track field performance.
  • Monitor products field performance, identify trending issues. Prioritize based on severity, occurrence, safety and/or cost of each failure mode.
  • Detailed failure analysis, identifying root-cause of problems across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, firmware). 
  • Work closely with Supplier Industrialization Engineering (SIE), Product Engineering and Reliability Engineering teams to apply manufacturing knowledge to drive containment and corrective action implementation into production.
  • Communicate field performance of the engineering system, gather buy-in from engineering peers and leadership on improvement priorities and urgency.
  • Write troubleshooting SOPs for the operations team to follow in response to on-board diagnostics reported by Lyft HW. Work with the operations team to root cause issues on bikes that can’t be repaired with their current information/toolset.  
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities, and help implement preventive measures for observed and potential failure modes.
  • Share Lessons Learned from previous field issues; Provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews to ensure future product performance, reliability, and manufacturability risks are mitigated. (DFMEAs)
  • Take part in ongoing optimization of the products and processes (performance, cost, technology).
Experience:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar fields required.
  • 5+ years of prior applicable experience desired; preferably in a hands on role such as Design Engineering / Failure Analysis / Quality / Service in consumer electronics and/or automotive.
  • Broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.  Ability to lead meetings and establish effective working relationships within Lyft cross functional teams.
  • Exceptional problem solving and Failure Analysis, strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Demonstrated success in applying statistical methods and tools to manage, synthesize, and interpret data.
  • Programming Languages & Tools: Python, Minitab, JMP or similar are a strong plus
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.

Starting in September 2023, this role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and a team-specific third day. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.

The expected range of pay for this position in the San Francisco Area is $139,500 - $155,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
