We are looking to hire high-energy, entrepreneurial and value-adding talent Blenheim Chalcot, the UK’s most successful venture builder to support the transformation and growth of one of our portfolio companies. This is a pivotal role within in a small, agile Finance function with exposure to Senior Management, Funding Partners and BC Partners with a fundamental impact on our development and growth.

We provide a range of services to help new business get off the ground, including technology, growth (marketing and sales), talent, HR, finance, legal and tax.

THE ROLE  

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated and technically strong Financial Controller to take full ownership of the controllership function within one of the BC portfolio businesses.  

The Financial Controller is responsible for the production of all statutory reporting, including providing understanding of financial performance to help drive decision making, as well as procurement and supplier management. The Financial Controller will lead a newly embedded offshore accounting team which is instrumental to this. 

 

Key responsibilities  

The Financial Controller is a vital role within the Blenheim Chalcot portfolio business and will require strong stakeholder management skills and an ability to work closely with other business areas. 

The successful Financial Controller will play a key role in leading and shaping our Finance function and will have full responsibility for identifying and supporting implementation of cost saving initiatives and controls within Finance and the wider business. 

 

Specific duties  

  • Technical finance go-to person within the business  
  • Providing required information for financial audits and taxation 
  • Prepare and oversee the generation of statutory financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements 
  • Prepare monthly management information 
  • Coordinate and manage external audits, liaising closely with auditors to provide necessary documentation and explanations 
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements 
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements, including tax filings (such as corporation tax and R&D claims) 
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard financial assets (including, but limited to, balance sheet reconciliations) 
  • Onboard new suppliers, manage accounts payable and accruals and provide active supplier management 
  • Conduct financial risk assessments and develop strategies for risk mitigation 
  • Ensuring sound cost management and controls within Finance and the wider business 
  • Leverage technology to enhance financial reporting and analysis processes 
  • Implement best practices in financial management and accounting 
  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency 
  • Collaborate with FP&A teams for accurate and timely financial closing 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments to gather financial data and insights 
  • Evaluate the financial impact of various strategic scenarios 
  • Assist with special financial projects such as acquisitions or financial system implementations 

 

KPIs & Deliverables 

  • Financial information provides an accurate view of business performance 
  • Valuable commercial insight and recommendations are delivered 
  • Senior management have confidence that decisions and assumptions are supported by data and rigorous analysis 
  • Senior management and stakeholder financial reporting is submitted accurately and on time
  • Providing required information for financial audits and taxation

The ideal candidate will have a track-record in delivering results in a fast-moving business and hence be comfortable with change and uncertainty. Excellent stakeholder management experience is essential to being successful in this role.

Skills 

  • Financial services accounting experience (particularly IFRS 9) 
  • Ability to work in high pressure environments with an aptitude for problem-solving 
  • Good organisation, accuracy and attention to detail to effectively meet deadlines 
  • Self-motivated and intellectually curious
  • A team-player with good stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Good level of competence in MS Office (specifically Excel) and computerised systems
  • Microsoft Business Central experience is desirable (but not essential)

  • CIMA, ACCA, ACA
