Head of Business Operations 

 

Job Summary: The Head of Business Operations drives the transformation, coordination, management, execution and measurement of all major cross-functional processes, projects, and initiatives for the organization and driving the company’s business operating system, LumOS. This role reports to the Chief of Staff to the CEO and resides organizationally within the Office of the CEO.  Its purpose is to identify, plan, coordinate, and communicate those high-impact, cross-functional problems and initiatives that will improve our metrics and decision-making, organizational effectiveness, efficiency, accelerate throughput, improve quality, and enable scalability of the entire organization.  

 

This role is NOT accountable for Product Development/ Management or Customer Delivery. It is accountable for the design and optimization of “the work that supports the work” or the envelope that surrounds our Product Management and Customer Delivery functions. I.e., it does not manage Product or Customer teams, projects, or engagements but seeks to optimize how we execute as an entire organization. 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Define and manage key cross-functional projects across the organization, especially those key projects or process improvements that streamline and improve cross-functional business execution
  • Drive organizational scalability and continuous key process improvements
  • Design and deploy internal systems (LumOS) and business metric dashboards to drive execution maturity, scalability and sustainability.  
  • Ensure smooth communication and coordination, upstream and downstream, between multiple departments involved or impacted by these projects.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate the Objectives and Key Results (OKR) System throughout the organization tied to the organizational strategies
  • Support the Chief of Staff in the constant evolution of the strategic direction of the organization

 

 

Supervisory / Management Responsibilities:

  • Manages roles in support of the Business Enablement initiatives such as an analyst, project resources, or other support staff as needed

 

Beneficial Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree/MBA is preferred

 

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field
  • 10+ years of strong business related (operations, sales, finance, Lean, Agile or continuous improvement) experience is required
  • 7+ years' experience in a senior leadership role, Program Management Office, or similar role in a small to mid-size organization is preferred.
  • Experience in project and program management with top tier Consulting organizations and preferably working in automotive tech  
  • Extensive experience in operational and strategic planning
  • Proven success establishing strong relationships and working across all functions within the organization
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Proven experience in enabling a fast-growing organization with the information and insights needed to execute effectively and efficiently
  • Excellence in enabling data analysis and performance/operation metrics monitoring for all stakeholders
  • Skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning
  • Interpersonal/Communication Skills – ability to channel different points of view; able to establish and maintain excellent relationships and credibility quickly; create team atmosphere with internal staff while achieving key objectives
  • Skilled in developing, implementing and communicating policies and procedures for diverse functional areas, analyzing data, making sound recommendations and adopting effective causes of action.

At Luminar, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $180,000.00 and $200,000.00* per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. You will also be eligible to receive other benefits including: equity in the form of restricted stock unit awards, comprehensive medical and dental coverage, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement for formal education related to advancing your career at Luminar.
