We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to lead and drive technology projects in our workplace. The Enterprise Engineering team design, develop and support world class infrastructure to accelerate our research progress. The Role

In this 12 month fixed term role, you will be responsible for the planning, maintenance and security for a diverse range of systems, ranging from Quantum Stornext storage arrays, VMWare hypervisors, Active Directory Servers, Linux, Windows and Mac hosts and tooling & automation that supports their safe and reliable operation. 

This role requires an individual with a deep level of expertise to support these systems, ensure facility uptime, security and help our teams push the bounds of technology.

Reporting to the Enterprise Engineering Lead, you will help define and drive user requirements, be responsible for following and creating design guidelines, assisting with technical design and acting as a point of technical escalation for global event spaces.

You will partner with a number of different teams within Google DeepMind, ranging from Production Studios, Robotics and more to ensure that our infrastructure consistently meets their needs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Accountable for security of non-corporate systems
  • Designing, maintaining and supporting virtualization stack both on-prem & remote
  • Design / Deploy & Maintain OS & security patching infrastructure
  • Design / Deploy & Maintain configuration management infrastructure
  • Identifying and bridging technology gaps and working with suppliers to resolve, near and long term
  • Managing site upgrades to ensure operational stability
  • Supporting ad-hoc requirements from research teams
  • Ensure facility documentation is up to date, accurate and accessible
  • Generate the ideas required to solve ambiguous problems, and take full ownership of the solution through strong project management skills
  • Ensure uptime and QOS across facilities by designing and implementing both proactive and reactive support processes.
About You

We are a team of domain specialists, and we are looking for a candidate with deep Infrastructure Engineering experience. You should have a solid understanding of networking technology to inform troubleshooting, maintenance and planning and will partner closely with network engineers within the team.

In order to set you up for success as an Infrastructure Engineer at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Prior experience in a role accountable for information security
  • Solid knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Expertise in implementing and effectively helpdesk and IT operations practices, including substantial knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
  • Possess a logical approach to troubleshooting, and ability to analyse network behaviors using packet capture and inspection tools
  • Experience working with fibre based infrastructure (MTP/MPO)
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools
  • You have a good understanding of cloud technologies, specifically Google Cloud and have experience deploying cloud services
  • Ability to work effectively at all levels in an organization, and collaboratively as part of a team
  • You are excited to push the boundaries of technologies, identifying gaps in technology and working with equipment manufacturers to fill them!
