Job Description

We are seeking a Manager of Culinary Product Strategy who will report to the Associate Director, Culinary Innovation and support ongoing product launches across our brands. They will have a deep understanding of the needs of our customers and support the design of product solutions that fit their needs. This Manager will also identify opportunities to create or improve team processes and lead both the team and cross-functional partners through problem solving. They will stay ahead of food trends and understand how to translate them to our customers to help maintain each of our meal kit brands as leaders in the Culinary space. The Manager must be at ease navigating a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment while juggling multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities include 

Team Leadership

    • Propose and refine OKRs for the team as a whole alongside team lead
    • Support both brand-specific and cross-functional projects across the team by contributing to resource planning, providing feedback on deliverables, and coaching as needed
    • Represent the team across brands in key meetings, taking accountability for follow ups
    • Champion a solutions-oriented approach and manage up to get what you need

Strategic Planning

    • Work closely with Product Management to determine quarterly menu targets based on the product roadmap, database health and culinary capacity while continuing to sharpen our planning tools
    • Manage the flow and prioritization of culinary briefs to meet menu targets, adapting and re-prioritizing as necessary
    • Facilitate key decisions around our ingredient SKU library as they relate to new products, preferences, limited time offerings, cross-brand dependencies, and planning constraints
    • Establish and track clear success metrics to work towards project and team goals

New Product Development

    • Become the expert on our recipe database – identify gaps, prioritize New Product Development accordingly, and make decisions about the future of existing recipes based on customer feedback
    • Write briefs for Recipe Developers that establish product design guardrails considering budgets, ingredient seasonality, supply chain constraints, customer insights, and trends
    • Conceptualize and lead ideation for limited time offerings, working closely with the Product Management team to optimize for business goals and Culinary team to create cohesive and exciting offerings
    • Spearhead new customer preference development by defining culinary guardrails and gaining cross functional alignment in service of the roadmap
    • Attend tastings in the test kitchen and provide feedback focused on adherence to the brief and knowledge of customer experience as well as relevant timeline milestones, ensuring launches are not at risk

Trend & Competitor Research

    • Leverage subscription services, cookbooks, restaurants, social media, and events to keep on top of food trends and their relevance to the HelloFresh customer, incorporating inspiration into weekly briefs
    • Track and analyze competitor activity by reading industry publications, ordering and cooking through competitor products, and collaborating with other departments
    • Develop strategies for continuously increasing the team’s knowledge and application of both in our workflows

Cross-Functional Special Projects

    • Identify new opportunities that are beneficial to both the business and our customers
    • Lead and participate in process improvement projects across the North America Meal Kits organization

You are…

  • A driven, communicative leader with strong analytical and problem solving skills, data-driven, customer-centric, focused on delivering results in fast-paced and ever changing environment

 

At a minimum, you have…

    • Undergraduate degree (culinary science, food studies, business, economics, marketing, product management, or a related discipline) or equivalent experience
    • Professional culinary training or equivalent experience
    • 5+ years of relevant work experience
    • Consumer packaged goods (CPG) experience is a plus 
    • Experience with product strategy & recipe development
    • Experience analyzing and synthesizing data into clear, actionable insights
    • Aptitude for program or project management 
    • Experience with Google Workspace tools, particularly Google Sheets
    • Experience with monday.com is a plus
    • People management skills

New York Pay Range$97,500—$130,000 USD
