Operations Strategy and Insights Associate- Deliveroo Hop and Editions

Deliveroo HOP and Editions 

The HOP and Editions divisions embody Deliveroo's dark store and dark kitchen models, catering to both grocery and restaurant order fulfillments. 

  • Deliveroo Hop is dedicated to swiftly delivering groceries worldwide, whether it's the weekly shopping, last-minute dinner party essentials, or a late-night snack. The Deliveroo Hop team is establishing a network of stores spanning the UK, Italy, Hong Kong, and the UAE.
  • On the other hand, Deliveroo Editions aims to grant customers access to the finest culinary offerings, regardless of their location. This is achieved through tailored, delivery-only kitchens that host a curated selection of local restaurants across the UK, France, UAE, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Both these models rely on Deliveroo's dedicated staff running the dark sites and efficiently delivering orders through its extensive rider network. Crucially, the operational insights gained from these ventures not only elevate the customer experience but also increasingly serve as a foundation for innovation in business models, product offerings, and operational excellence for third-party partners.

The Role

The Operations Strategy and Insights Associate will be responsible for overseeing the comprehensive management of diverse projects aimed at achieving strategic business objectives related to efficiency optimization across HOP and Editions sites globally. Their role mirrors that of a consultant, applying data-driven problem-solving to pivotal initiatives with a focus on enhancing labour productivity, designing operational planning processes, and collaborating with finance and strategy teams to drive impactful P&L outcomes.

The ideal candidate must navigate swiftly through a dynamic, high-stakes environment. Success in this role requires independent work, a nuanced understanding of key data, and a deep sense of ownership over projects. The entrepreneurial nature of the position provides opportunities to showcase impact, facilitating rapid growth within the role.

Effective communication with stakeholders is integral to the position. This involves merging problem-solving and innovative thinking with robust approaches to execute complex projects, influencing colleagues across various teams. The candidate is expected to proactively contribute to both short- and long-term visions, draft strategic documents for the business, and conduct detailed / 80-20 analyses as needed.

Responsibilities 

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of operational improvements crucial to the financial and strategic goals of the company, particularly focusing on labour productivity and planning, and organisation design
  • Define and lead project objectives, timeline and success metrics by conducting data-driven analyses and collaborating directly with the leadership team across HOP and Editions marketplaces 
  • Build scalable and time efficient solutions through automation to efficiently drive operational improvements and to track success metrics in a dynamic business environment 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including site operations, product, finance and strategy, and planning and analytics teams, ensuring alignment across different teams and building effective ways of working to ensure project success
  • Take ownership of site level implementation of by working directly with relevant teams
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, skillfully prioritising competing business demands and proactively harness and implementing learnings for timely course correction  
  • Provide project updates to senior management and key stakeholders, and effectively surface key issues, dependencies and timeline risks (e.g. tech delays, site ops resources etc.) 
  • Measure project success and tangible impact, identifying process improvements needed to ensure continuous improvement

Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a consulting or data-driven operations strategy role
  • Experience leading strategy-based projects to identify and resolve multi-dimensional issues to deliver strategic and operational success
  • Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams with a wide range of expertise
  • Experience in analysing large amounts of data, in particular working with analytical models that combine quantitative qualitative information in complex real world scenarios
  • Excellent presentation, communication, organisation and project prioritisation skills
  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and ambiguous business environment  
  • Proficiency in G-Suite and Microsoft Office for analysis and presentation
  • Experience in an analytical environment is preferable
  • Note: This role is UK based but may require some travel
