We’re looking for a People Operations Lead in our Budapest office to join our People Operations Team on a 12 month fixed term contract. This role is a unique opportunity to have an impact on Wise’s mission and assist business leads and teams in delivering a seamless employee experience throughout the entire ‘Wiser’ journey, and in turn growing as a people leader.

This role will report to our Senior People Operations Lead based in London.

Your mission:

As one team, our People Operations’ vision is to create fast, convenient, transparent Wiser support, powered by smart tech and human advice. To help us get there, you’ll be responsible for leading the Estonian team who provide important insights and sound recommendations alongside policy and process, ensuring key stakeholders are continually informed of legislation, law and regulation updates.

You’ll also be responsible for team goals, KPIs, efficiencies, process improvements and future optimization of our People Operations team, through deliverables in local and global projects.

Here’s how you’ll be contributing to People Operations (POps):

  • Lead, coach and upskill the Budapest People Operations team responsible for providing a comprehensive People service to the Budapest office (circa 800 headcount) and additional smaller locations in the EMEA region e.g. UEA and Cherkasy. This includes looking after the People Support subteam (5 Specialists) who administer operational requests and respond to Wiser queries, as well as the People Advisory subteam (2 Advisors) who handle Employee Relations matters with sensitivity and efficiency.
  • Play a key role in driving the People Operations evolution, by leading projects on a local level and contributing at a global level, all of which are focused on the Wiser experience and operational excellence.
  • Support People Advisors to navigate end-to-end management of Employee Relations cases with increased complexity, sensitivity, regulation and risk, and cross-sharing recommendations and learnings from specific cases to enable further development.
  • Act as a point of escalation for Employee Relations cases with deeper complexity/ severity (e.g. disputes, hearings, tribunals).
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with labour regulations to ensure the team provides smart advice on Hungarian HR legislation and policy.
  • Set aspirational development goals and performance measurement KPIs/OKRs  for the team to build continual growth and succession plans.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Contribute towards the bi-annual planning cycles – attend global review sessions, collate data on team performance, share ideas for improvements and lead new projects.
  • Create continuous improvement within the team – partner with your global team to recommend new approaches and changes in policy and procedures, co-creating solutions with a global and mass customization outlook.
  • Maximise advisory impact and partnership – collaborate with the People Partners (HRBPs) and senior stakeholders to share advisory data and trends to drive empowered and inclusive stakeholder relationships.

About you:

  • Strong HR experience - your specialism is in HR operations and employee relations matters within a fast-paced environment.
  • Extensive HR knowledge - you’re a subject matter expert when it comes to Hungarian employment and immigration law.
  • Customer driven - you’re customer centric, always thinking about how to automate and improve the Wiser experience while working smarter not harder.
  • Data driven - with your high proficiency in data tools and visualisation, you always start with data, facts and insights to help inform your approach through storytelling to solving problems and analysing needs.
  • Experienced Lead - you feel comfortable leading, developing and optimising a team and being an evangelist of the ‘working smart’ principle.
  • Project manager - you’re solutions-focused and able to proactively prioritise problems and initiatives to work on that have the most measurable business impact.
  • A heap of empathy and emotional intelligence - you’ll need to be able to communicate effectively with all kinds of people both in person and in writing.

Initiative - we’re not about “one size fits all” or looking for off-the-shelf solutions; we need you to think creatively and customise your outlook, and of course be proactive and make informed evidence-based and data-driven decisions.

  • Resilient change agent - you possess the skills and desire to change the status quo for the better, including the ability to manage all elements of organisational transformation, facilitation, and training.
  • Collaborative - with tested mediation skills, you guide a vast variety of stakeholders, building and fostering relationships over time, but also not afraid to challenge through healthy discussions.
  • Communicator - with fluency in Hungarian and English, you’re effective and thoughtful in communication, being able to understand diverse perspectives and vary your communication style based on the circumstance.

Some extra skills that would be great:

  • Financial services experience - you possess deeper insight to empower our team further with our commercial strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
