The Product Quality Engineer will implement Formlabs’ quality management processes and systems across the hardware supply chain to ensure that products and components are continuously produced at acceptable quality levels. Quality Engineers provide on-site support to suppliers for problem diagnosis and resolution using structured problem solving methodologies and corrective action tools. They are key to ensuring good parts arrive at the assembly line and overseeing product-level quality control at outgoing inspection.

The Job:

  • Responsible for managing Tier 1, 2 and 3 supplier quality throughout the product lifecycle: new product development, production ramp and sustaining engineering. 
  • Key contributor to vendor selection and oversight to ensure that suppliers’ current and future capabilities meet business requirements. Conduct supplier factory audits and lead improvement initiatives to boost quality. 
  • Act as on-site supplier liaison during critical phases of the NPI process to drive quality control plans. 
  • Conduct tool qualifications to ensure product consistency and measurement accuracy. 
  • Implement a continuous improvement program with the suppliers ensuring critical to quality product specifications are addressed through process controls and detection methods. Perform hands-on root cause analysis of production issues and quality excursions, leveraging internal and external resources to improve production processes and deliver consistent adherence to specifications.  
  • Ensure sub-tier outgoing quality requirements and measurement systems are aligned with next tier supplier incoming quality controls. 
  • Review part inspection data to ensure that all critical dimensions and specifications are able to be mass produced with consistent quality at high yields. Issue nonconforming material reports and drive corrective actions with suppliers. 
  • Responsible for ensuring that suppliers’ products meet technical requirements and standards specified by the Engineering team for quality, safety, consistency and regulatory compliance.
  • Review and approve supplier incoming and outgoing inspection methodologies, processes, and acceptance/rejection criteria. Audit supplier SOP’s and SIP’s, and ensure 100% SOP/SIP document compliance.
  • Responsible for technical communication and risk identification of NPI projects of suppliers:
  • Conduct factory audits, report results and lead improvement initiatives. Lead regular quality performance reviews with suppliers.

You:

  • BS/MS degree / 5+ years working experience in direct quality management of EMS manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to manage quality oversight and improvement at vendors
  • Able to work independently and hands-on to solve problems on the production floor and drive concrete improvement measures.
  • Experience in supplier management of structural parts or working experience in the structural parts industry (sheet metal, machining, mold forming, etc.) is preferred
  • Able to read and understand electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and geometric tolerancing.
  • Able to positively interact and collaborate with a diverse group of people domestically and internationally at all levels and disciplines
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills; strong cross functional collaboration and problem solving skills 
  • Technical knowledge in electromechanical systems, robotics and additive manufacturing technologies will be a plus 
  • Good knowledge and experience in quality management system and quality control tools (e.g. FMEA, Statistical Process Control, Six Sigma, 5S, and Kaizen) will be a plus
  • Able to travel to factory sites at least 4 days per week

This job will be based in Dongguan within one of our manufacturing facilities.
