Your role and your Team:

This role will be part of the Project Management team which reports to the Head of Project Management - Energy and is responsible for the successful delivery of projects within the Energy Integrated Project Team (IPT). You will be deployed to the Energy IPT managed by the Energy IPT Leader (IPTL) where you will work with a Senior Project Manager to manage projects within the IPT.  You will be responsible for the implementation of project governance for your scope of work, including efficient project delivery in line with defined objectives and priorities, schedule development and adherence, impediment removal, risk management, and resource demand.  Working with a cross-functional team including engineering, supply chain, manufacturing and PMO functions, you will use your experience of managing complex fast-paced aerospace projects to:

  • Management & Leadership – Tell the truth of the project with honesty and transparency.  Ensure the team and key stakeholders understand the status versus the objectives and are clear on what actions are required to deliver those objectives.  Unleash creativity and innovation from the project team toward maximizing operational and delivery performance.  Encourage delivery ownership and drive accountability with the teams delivering the work.
  • Program Deliverables – Manage the Project Objectives on behalf of the Senior Project Manager and ensure the teams have planned and scheduled all work within their scope in line with those objectives. Make proposals to optimise scope, trading and allocating the available time, quality requirements, budget and resources and have these endorsed by the Senior PM.  Drumbeat the delivery of tasks and firm deliverables in line with the objectives.  Ensure the basics of scope, schedule, cost, resource, risk, opportunity, and quality are done brilliantly and factored into technical decision making by the teams.
  • Project Governance – Deploy the Program Governance model within the project team and support the team through the processes.  Share best practices across the PMO and encourage improvements.  Provide coaching to the Scrum Masters.

Each IPT is responsible for a different scope which may include related systems (e.g., Propulsion, Energy, Avionics, Structure & Interiors), or cross-aircraft topics (e.g., Chief Engineering).  The scope assigned to you may change over time depending on company need and your personal development.

Your Day to Day:

  • Manage the Program delivery process for your scope on behalf of the Senior PM to establish, align and record Project Objectives for your scope across the entire development cycle.
  • Be responsible for evaluating Project impacts and communicating these with clear recommendations to the Senior PM and System or Technical Lead. Deputise for the Senior PM
  • Be consulted on technical decisions to ensure that Project implications and risks are considered and accounted for e.g., impact on industrialization, schedule, or cost.
  • Ensure Project Objectives are translated into measurable and achievable deliverables within the framework of the Program delivery process.  Manage these with the team and drumbeat their delivery.
  • Support rapid resolution of obstacles to delivery through attendance of team, IPT and program daily escalation sessions and subsequent resolution activities.
  • Facilitate delivery related meetings such as planning reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Own the development, management and delivery of the schedule and pay particular attention to interdependencies and deliverables to other teams and suppliers.
  • Act as an 'Early Warning' for non-delivered handoffs, parts and materializing risks and opportunities
  • Actively manage risks and opportunities, ensuring mitigation activities are well planned.
  • Ensure the Change Control process is adhered to by the team and support its administration.
  • Plan and manage project costs and resource demands.
  • Support the Senior PM with cross-functional alignment e.g., of Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain Ops, Production and Test.
  • Contribute to the creation of a strong Program Management function through implementing best practice project management processes, methods, and tools within the teams with which you work in line with guidance from the PMO.

Your Profile:

  • Undergraduate or master’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Engineering) or equivalent experience in a technical (e.g., aerospace, automotive, etc.) environment in lieu. Experience in the development, production and / or testing / qualification of battery systems would be highly beneficial.
  • Proven Project Management skills with a minimum of 5 years Project Management experience, ideally within a complex aerospace environment. Strong preference to candidates who have participated in an aircraft development program, ideally E-VTOL, and are familiar with more than one phase of the project lifecycle e.g., development, certification, or operational phases.  Experience in an area related to the IPT scope (i.e., electrical power systems) is desirable.
  • Good understanding of Project Management fundamentals for scheduling, risk management, estimation, project communications and budget and resource management.
  • Demonstrable experience in working within cross-functional teams and ability to work closely with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to probe and challenge assumptions, think differently when faced with challenges and adopt a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Practical experience in a range of Project Management methodologies including predictive Project Management (e.g., waterfall) and Agile Methodologies (e.g., SAFE, SCRUM). Preferably hold or working towards a PM qualification equivalent to IPMA Level D or higher as well as Scrum Master or other Agile Project Management qualification.  Chartered Engineer status favourable.
  • Enthusiastic and eager to learn and adopt his/her style to a highly complex and fast paced working environment; puts the team first; robust and passionate in following given objectives; uses failure as a learning experience. Resilient to high levels of uncertainty and change.
  • Excellent communicator in English, fluency in German would be beneficial.
