The role

As the NZ Recipe Development Manager you will oversee our highly rigorous recipe creation process in our Sydney-based Test Kitchen.

You will lead a team of two talented Recipe Developers, whilst also being involved in recipe creation, and will work collaboratively with the wider Culinary and Product Development team to ensure our product is simple, delicious, and data-driven for our growing horde of hungry customers.

You will…

  • Lead and support NZ Recipe Developers to ensure recipes meet internal performance assessment and align with our product roadmap and consistent standards of excellence across concepts.
  • Initiate and undertake strategic/creative projects to achieve key initiatives, aligned with the broader objectives and product improvement.
  • Create recipes that are within budget, nutritional, and variety constraints, leveraging product insights, food trends, customer feedback, and the recipe database to create exciting and successful new dishes each week.
  • Lead recipe tastings by ensuring feedback is provided and collected from all participants, encompassing recipe flavour, composition, and methods.
  • Become an expert in our customer preferences and flavour profiles, and apply this knowledge when evaluating recipes, ingredients, and processes to cultivate a variety of flavour experiences.
  • Review performance of weekly menus and implement strategic learnings for existing and future recipe development to address customer feedback, perfect recipes and drive score improvements.
  • Collaborate with wider Product Development team; Editorial, Culinary Analytics & Operations and Innovation, in product creation beyond development and deliver on strategic projects to support both new and existing product development.

You have…

  • Comprehensive culinary expertise, backed-up by experience and knowledge.
  • At least 4-5 years’ experience in food product development, ideally across menu development, Test Kitchen, magazine or meal kit experience.
  • A Culinary Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Experience in people management: cultivating performance, growth and engagement in a team.

You are…

  • Obsessed with food, and passionate about keeping up to date with food trends and developments in the Culinary space.
  • A supportive people leader - you act as a role model, lead, inspire and motivate your team, foster feedback, learning and development.
  • Creative and pragmatic when it comes to creating new recipes and using new, exciting, and alternative ingredients.
  • An excellent communicator - able to communicate at all levels with structure, clarity, poise and precision,  both written and verbal.
  • Proactive, ambitious, and assertive: you take ownership of your work and think beyond the scope of a given assignment.
  • An outstanding problem solver - use logic to identify opportunities, evaluate alternatives, and synthesise and present critical information to solve problems.
  • Incredibly organised - you demonstrate effective time management skills in the midst of shifting priorities.
  • Able to maintain consistent deadlines while ensuring complete accuracy across all tasks.
  • Passionate about our business and changing the grocery retail landscape in New Zealand.
