Snapshot

We are looking for Research Scientists to join the Robotics team whose mission is to build “Embodied AI” - a robot brain capable of turning language instructions into useful physical actions - to improve the lives of billions of people in the physical world.

About Us

Artificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.

The role

Research Scientists lead our efforts in developing novel algorithms and architectures towards the end goal of building artificial intelligence. Having pioneered research in the world's leading academic and industrial labs in PhDs, post-docs or professorships, Research Scientists join Google DeepMind to work collaboratively to develop solutions to fundamental questions in machine learning and AI.

In this role you will be joining a team passionate about advancing the state of the art in Robotics! You should be passionate about building “robot brains” using AI: systems that will one day be capable of performing common household chores in a human home (e.g. folding laundry, chopping vegetables, washing dishes, etc). Research Scientists on our team contribute to ambitious research projects involving semantic task planning, visual scene understanding and design of safe and robust controllers for highly dexterous manipulation tasks. You will implement novel algorithms, deploy them on multiple robots, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to realize impactful results!

Key responsibilities:
  • Design, implement and evaluate novel algorithms on multiple robot embodiments.
  • Report and present research findings and developments clearly and efficiently both internally and externally, verbally and in writing.
  • Engage in team collaborations to meet ambitious research goals.
  • Stay up-to-date with the relevant scientific literature and technical developments.
About You

In order to set you up for success as a Research Scientist, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • PhD in Computer Science or Robotics; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with Deep Learning pipelines, training perception systems and/or Large Language or Vision Language Models.
  • Experience working with simulators and real-world robots.
In addition, the following would be an advantage:
  • Research track record in robotic manipulation, robot safety.
  • Track record in one or more of the following topics: Generative Models, Robust Learning, Uncertainty quantification, Mechanistic Interpretability, AI Alignment.
Competitive salary applies

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $157,000 - $240,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
